the technical aspects of strong improvisation as a soloist. This workshop will present clear ways to develop your improvisational skills through musicality, phrasing, and take home practices. The Creative Struggle

We’ve all been there, the writer’s block of our dance journey. This evening isn’t so much of a lecture, but a guided discussion about the struggles we all deal with as creative individuals. Kami will share her insight on how to work without boundaries, push past insecurities, stop comparing yourself to others and offer ideas to keep the creative juices flowing. When we can all share our personal struggles with each other we learn we are not alone.

Adding direction, pathway and level changes opens up a whole new world of possibilities within your dance, so let’s get stepping.

Exploration and Creation Within Your Self.

Our afternoon will be an exploration of constructing moment inspired by combinations that will be taught, but students will be given time and space to alter and add their own interpretation. Often we don’t take the time to create on our own and therefore struggle with making dances that feel unique to your own artistic voice. Kami will offer ways that she uses concepts or movement phrases that she is inspired by to develop something that is uniquely your own.

6:00-7:30pm- Dinner Buffet

Divine Muse
The root of Eastern dance stylization lies in the transition, the inspiration before thought, and the effortless fluidity that is inspired by the breath. This workshop focuses on the Honey and molasses that is present in Indian, Balinese, and Thai dance forms, and begins with a short lecture about what ties them together and their inherent differences. We will explore the inherent similarities and differences of these dance styles and how to fuse them effectively with Tribal Fusion. Short dance phrases will be used to explore the mysterious and timeless elegance of these stylizations, and the students will be given a glimpse into a completely different world of dance aesthetic.

12:00-1:00pm- Lunch Buffet

2:00-5:00pm- Kami Liddle

Dealer’s Choice: Kami’s fav at the moment.

Let me be straight with you; writing up workshop descriptions far in advance on what I want to share with students can be a struggle. Often times what I am currently passionate about isn’t what I am scheduled to teach. So, in this class I will share with you what I am inspired by and focusing on at the moment; you’ll get the newest of new material.

About the Instructors:

Kami Liddle

Kami has studied various dance styles throughout her life, but found her true passion, Belly Dance, when she was 18 years old. She began to study cabaret style belly dance until she found Fat Chance Belly Dance and began to study their videos religiously. Today Kami refers to her style as a modern fusion of an ancient dance. As she began to perform as a soloist she began to incorporate other styles into her ATS repertoire such as modern, hip hop jazz and Bhangra dance. Kami has earned a degree in Art with a Minor in Dance from the University of Nevada, Reno and has been nominated for 'Best Interpretive Artist" for 2005 and 2007 by Zaghareet Magazine. She joined Bellydance Superstars in 2005 and is a contributing choreographer as well as the director of the Tribal Superstars. Kami recently relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Zoe Jakes

An innovative dancer, Zoe has been said to have her own unique take on Tribal Bellydance. She takes her influence from Art Nouveaux, tango, hip hop, and Indian classical dance. She loves unicorns and has never once doubted their existence. Zoe Jakes adds a third dimension as the diverse and disciplinary dance counterpart to Beats Antique’s sound. Jakes has worked with two major dance troupes, including Miles Copeland’s Bellydance Superstars and Rachel Brice’s Indigo Belly Dance Company, and is a student of ballet and contemporary techniques.
