Datura Style Combos and Moves with Molly McClellan:

In this fast paced workshop, we will start with am energizing warm up and then transition into touching on the fundamental arm pathways and foot positions that are essential to Datura Style. We will then move on to some key Datura Format combinations that will include slow and fast movements, traveling, turning and spinning, fancy footwork and finger cymbals. To finish we’ll put them all together in a sequence in the end so we can drill, dance, and have fun and then cool down to reset the body. This workshop is for all styles as the movement and combos that can be incorporated in either a improv or choreography. Please bring finger cymbals (zils) if you use them, a notebook if desired, and a water bottle. This class is not intended for absolute beginners and is best for people with previous belly dance experience as basic belly dance movements will not be broken down.

Molly McClellan's Bio:

Molly McClellan is an internationally acclaimed performer and dance instructor. Traveling with Intention with Courtney Anne:

Do you wish you felt more comfortable moving and commanding the stage while you travel? In this workshop, you will learn to look and feel more confident when traveling and how to purposefully cover both small and large distances with precision and control. We will learn exercises and combos focusing on weight shifts and working with, not against, physics. These will include belly dance exercises using an agility ladder-- a training tool used by athletes to improve their footwork.

Courtney Anne's Bio:

Courtney Anne was able to fulfill her lifelong dream of learning to belly dance in 1999. In addition to performing, she shares her love of this art through teaching and directing the Serpentine Visions dance troupe. Her two biggest passions in teaching are guiding dancers to find their expressive creativity and helping people strengthen their physical foundation through perspectives she has learned not only through belly dance, but also by cross training in other dance forms and physical disciplines.

Phoenix with Partnering with the Veil and Zills

Do you have a loving or frustrating relationship with the veil?  Phoenix starts with a drilling movement adding in zills and veil work.  Yes - both or one - that is up to you.  This may help ease the pain or even add to an already cohesive relationship.  Or may be you want to just have fun for one day with no commitment.  The participant can decide to take on the full task or just a portion in order to customize the level to their own comfort.  Great for all levels and all styles who want to have a flirty fun dance partner for a day.  Phoenix is known for her veil, double veil and wings performances - she is sharing a few secrets and new combos with you.  Bring a veil if you have one, zills if you use them, water and sleeveless top (tank or spaghetti straps suggested).  Veils will be available to borrow.

 Phoenix's Bio

Dynamic and dramatic, Phoenix is an acclaimed belly dance artist with a stage presence that is as unique as it is diverse.  She performs and teaches  nationally while directing the Sharaqa Shimmers Performance Troupe and teaching regular classes in Denver.  A few of the festivals that you may have seen Phoenix are The Las Vegas Bellydance Intensive, Art of the Belly in Maryland, the Hawaii Bellydance Convention, the Arise Music Festival in Colorado and more sponsored events in various states.  Phoenix's works closely with the band, Yallah!.  She loves to share the fun of musicality and zills with all levels of students.  In addition to technique and choreography, Phoenix emphasizes the importance of musicality and presentation.  Phoenix teaches zills and musicality from the drummer and dancer perspective.  This approaches allows the student to understand the music and gain confidence in their own interpretation.  Phoenix is dedicated to sharing her knowledge of belly dance by teaching, performing and  sponsoring events-her passion for this  beautiful form of self-expression is  evident in every move she makes.

Dancing Your Astrology with Abby Moon:

Your astrological make up is a blueprint for the lessons you are on this planet to learn. In this workshop we will use our natal charts as inspiration for the development of personal movement phrases that exemplify our unique astrological compositions. With prompts for moving meditations on the significance of the placement of the planets in your chart, you will come to a deeper understanding of how these manifest in your life through the expression of dance. By the end of the workshop you will have a zodiac of movement phrases that symbolize your personal identification with your chart.

To prepare for this workshop, please research your natal chart. There are many free websites that will diagram and explain your personal astrological make up. Please pay particular attention to the sign placement of your sun, moon, ascendant, and Venus, as these will be the primary foci of our movement meditations. (For example, my sun is in Cancer, my moon in Pisces, etc. Please have a cursory understanding of what this means, as explained in your online description.) Consider bringing a journal to document your experience and discoveries. Workshop participants who wish to move deeper into this theme will be welcome to join Abby Moon's Venus Project, a collaborative choreography that explores in depth the placement of Venus in our charts, and how it informs who we are as lovers, through the expression of sacred dance.

There is no prior dance experience required for this workshop. Rather, you will be encouraged to explore movement that feels authentic to your understanding of your astrological composition. The focus of this workshop is on personal expression, not technique. All that is required is a willingness to explore and experience the unique expression of your inner body wisdom. Everyone welcome.
