Hidden Los Angeles and CicLAvia are pleased to present the Iconic Wilshire Boulevard salon, a celebration and discussion of the grand Los Angeles thoroughfare.

The salon will examine the boulevard that is the focus of the June 23 CicLAvia car-free, open streets event. Wilshire Boulevard is a snapshot of the city’s architectural evolution from Victorian vision to modernist experimentation; massive towers of business to intimate houses of worship; world-class museums to working class mercados.

The discussion will feature three experts on the boulevard:

  • Edward Lifson Architectural Researcher and Commentator, and Producer of a series of podcasts about Wilshire for CicLAvia
  • Catherine Gudis – Associate Professor of History at the University of California at Riverside and the school’s Director of the Graduate Program in Public History, Catherine has created a Wilshire architectural guide for CicLAvia participants
  • Kevin Roderick – Renowned Los Angeles journalist and author of Wilshire Boulevard: Grand Concourse of Los Angeles

Each attendee will receive a special edition CicLAvia guide to the architecture of Wilshire Boulevard.

CicLAvia – Iconic Wilshire Boulevard is part of Pacific Standard Time Presents: Modern Architecture in L.A. This collaboration, initiated by the Getty, brings together 17 local cultural institutions from April through July for a wide-ranging look at the postwar built environment of the city as a whole, from its famous residential architecture to its vast freeway network, revealing the city’s development and ongoing impact in new ways. Major support for CicLAvia – Iconic Wilshire Boulevard has been provided by the Getty Foundation.

The salon is sponsored by Hidden Los Angeles and CicLAvia with support from the Craft and Folk Art Museum, the Miracle Mile Chamber of Commerce, and more sponsors to be announced. Limited food and beverages may be made available.
