Event description

Description

The Point-in-Time (PIT) count provides communities with an accurate estimate of how many people are experiencing homelessness on a given day, but it is much more than just a count. The PIT count allows us to connect with our neighbors in crisis and hear their stories. With this information the Richmond region can continue to provide solutions to homelessness that meet the needs of people experiencing homelessness in our community. The outcomes from the last count are evidence that this approach is working. During the January count, we connected with a total of 497 people experiencing homelessness. This is down 56% from 1150 in 2009. At 5.6 people per 10,000, the Richmond region has one of the lowest per capita rates of homelessness in the state and nation. The first steps in providing solutions to homelessness is connecting with people in crisis and listening to their story. The PIT count is one of our community’s major strategies to fulfill these steps and Homeward is grateful for your partnership in this effort.

Sign up to connect with and offer a survey to the guests at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church community lunch or in street outreach on Thursday, August 1, 2019. Be sure to read the shift description when registering. Time and location varies per shift. Training will be provided electronically in advance.

We ask that volunteers bring a smart phone with a data plan to allow us to conduct the survey electronically. All volunteers must be 18+. Email questions to mrogers@homewardva.org.
