Event description

Description

Join us for the 7th Anniversary Work to Play Cup presented by Target! The event will host 1,400 K-8th grade students from 45 Urban Initiatives partner schools; the Urban Initiatives community will come together to celebrate our participants' hard work and dedication during the school year. No soccer experience or experience with youth is necessary. We will coordinate training webinars ahead of the event.

Check out the Work to Play Cup video from last year for an idea of what the event is like!

Please select a volunteer position from the following categories:

- Coach (all day): (18+ years old or accompanied by an adult): Volunteer Coaches will be matched with a UI soccer team. You and 2-3 other coaches will lead your team through various soccer and recess stations all while promoting teamwork, good sportsmanship, and relationship building. No soccer experience required. Team assignments will be communicated beforehand.

- Traffic Control Aide (8:00am to 11:00am): you will assist in facilitating the movement of traffic and support the barricades that will be posted on each street to keep Midway Plaisance Drive closed. These streets will only be used for buses to drop off and pick up players and having a volunteer there to move each barricade is incredibly helpful!

- Lunch Help (9:00am to 12:30pm): work with our food sponsor Aramark to help hand out lunches to each of our students and volunteers. Once lunch is done, volunteers will help Aramark to clean up and load up their trucks.

- Registration (8:00am to 10:00am): (18+ years old or accompanied by an adult) these volunteers will help with event registration, assisting early arrival parents and event day volunteers.

- UI Hype Squad (all day): this energetic group of volunteers will welcome UI teams off buses as they arrive, pump up parents and spectators on the sidelines, and travel along Midway Plaisaince throughout the day cheering on our kids as the ultimate UI Hype Squad!

- Recess Station (all day): as a volunteer, you will help lead easy to follow recess games and support active participation at the Play with Potential recess station. Games will be taught to the volunteer group ahead of time.

- Operations (all day): (18+ years old or accompanied by an adult) volunteers will help with logistics and operations. Potential responsibilities include: map and layout guidance, helping distribute water to participants, assisting station rotation, emptying trash cans, etc.

- Clean-Up Crew (2:00pm 4:00pm): you will help out from 2-4PM packing up equiptment from Midway Plaisance and unloading it at the UI Offices. As one of the least glamorous volunteering roles, but most important, you will be one of Team UI's favorite group of volunteers.

If you would like to register a large group, please contact Taryne Moore at taryne.moore@urbaninitiatives.org.

If you have any other questions about volunteering, please contact Lauren Gaynor at lauren.gaynor@urbaninitiatives.org.

*****Please note that all volunteers must participate in a mandatory webinar training due to Chicago Public School volunteer guidelines. The training will be led by Urban Initiatives staff and more information will be provided near the end of May.******
