6-Day Trauma Recovery Empowerment Model Training Series (TREM and M-TREM): Working with Men and Women in Groups

All attendees must commit to attending all six days of this training in full:

  • Day 1: Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

  • Day 2: Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

  • Day 3: Friday, July 13, 2018 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

  • Day 4: Monday, July 16, 2018 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

  • Day 5: Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

  • Day 6: Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm


Description/Objectives:

The Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model (TREM) and the Men’s Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model (M-TREM) are gender-based trauma models designed to address issues of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse in the lives of women and men who have been economically and socially marginalized and for whom traditional recovery work has been unavailable or ineffective. The model was developed by clinicians at Community Connections in Washington, D.C. with considerable input from consumers. TREM/M-TREM uses a psycho-educational focus and skill-building approach, emphasizes survivor empowerment and peer support and teaches women techniques for self-soothing, boundary maintenance and current problem solving. The men’s model focuses more strongly on helping the men to develop an emotional and relational vocabulary.


Participants will:

  1. Learn the core assumptions, which provide the foundation for the TREM and M-TREM approach to trauma recovery work.
  2. Identify specific leader techniques used in the TREM/M-TREM model.
  3. Practice running a TREM/M-TREM group by being a mock group leader and a mock group participant.
  4. Discuss the differences in trauma recovery for women and men.
  5. Explore how and when to use grounding techniques with consumers in group.

What’s the content level for this training?

  • Basic: For professionals just beginning their work with survivors, or who have not had much training on working with survivors. (0-2 years’ experience)

  • Intermediate: For professionals who have a basic understanding of best practices for working with survivors. (2-5 years’ experience)

How much are Social Work CEU’s?

Social Work CEUs are free if you are an Individual Member of MNADV, or you work or volunteer for an organization that is a Member of MNADV. The cost is $90 for non-members. Please bring payment via check or exact cash to the training. Learn more about the benefits of MNADV Membership here.

When will I receive my Certificate of Attendance or Social Work CEU?

Is parking available?

Ample visitor parking is free and available in the FRONT of the hospital (Van Dusen Road Entrance) or in the overflow guest parking lot to the RIGHT of the hospital (Contee Road Entrance). Please do not park in marked spaces.


Visitor Entrance Procedure:

The main entrance of the hospital (ground level) is the second floor. Enter the main entrance and walk towards the receptionist desk where you will obtain a visitor's badge. From there, you will be directed to Conference Rooms A and B, which can be found to the left of the lobby on the same floor.


Do I need to print the Eventbrite ticket?

No – once you receive a confirmation email, you are registered and do not need to print your ticket.

Is food available?

Food will not be provided. Please make prior arrangements. There is a cafeteria as well as vending machine options accessible within the building.

Is this location handicap-accessible?

Will printed handouts be available?

Yes, PowerPoints and handouts will be printed and available for all participants.

What is your cancellation policy?

MNADV understands that sometimes life gets in the way. If you need to cancel your registration, please do so at least 48 hours in advance, as many of our trainings have a waitlist. To cancel, please email hahmed@mnadv.org.
