When was the last time you felt without hope?
Did without food? Or, basic daily needs?
This is why we’re hiking and fundraising to support Heart for Africa’s Children of Project Caanan. These children deserve your help, to provide healthcare, education, nutrition and daily needs. We urge you to join us on the hike and give what you can.
Freely you have received, freely give.
The Summit for Hope began from a group of big-hearted, high-energy Heart for Africa volunteers. They designed this creative and exciting way to raise funds for Project Canaan in Swaziland. It started with the idea of climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, East Africa, in 2009, and has grown to include climbing many peaks around the world. Imagine people reaching to some of the highest points on earth to bring HOPE to a country filled with orphans and vulnerable children...you can make a difference by hiking with us or donating to support the event or a hiker's fundraising goals.
Since our first Summit in 2011 and each annual Summit since, this event has been a tremendous success! Not only did each team raise a tremendous amount of awareness, but collectively they were able to raise over $335,000! It is amazing what can happen when groups band together under a common vision!
Each team will plan accordingly to arrive at the summit of Mt. Baldy between 11am and noon on June 13th. Each team will have their picture taken with a Heart for Africa flag at the summit.
All funds raised by the SUMMIT 4 HOPE climb are tax deductible and will go directly towards Project Canaan, Swaziland.
FAMILY OPTION (Non-Summit) is 2.5 mi one way. (Manker Flats to Ski Hut)
(recommended for families looking for a shorter, but still challenging hike)
Meet at the Manker Flats campground area for parking. Be sure to have an Adventure Pass for parking - get before Saturday as the ranger station isn’t open that early. You'll start near Manker Flats and take the Baldy Bowl (Ski Hut) Trail. This is a non-summit hike as your destination is the Ski Hut or stop and turn back at any point comfortable for your family. If you're feeling great, you can continue up to the Summit, as this hike is the first portion of the Middle Route. You'll need to sign the waiver for any hiker under 18.
SHORT ROUTE (Summit Hike) is 3.2 mi one way = ~2.5 hours, 2200 ft elevation gain. (Devil's Backbone route)
(recommended for most, strenuous but doable - equiv to twice up Garcia Trail in Glendora. Utilizes the ski lift)
Start by 8AM or earlier if you plan to take a lot of breaks. Meet at the ski lift parking lot and make sure you have cash to buy a ski lift ticket.
MIDDLE ROUTE (Summit Hike) is 4.5 mi one way = ~4 hours, 4K ft elevation gain.
(more serious day hikers, this is quite a strenuous hike)
Start by 6:30AM or earlier for more break time. Meet around the Manker Flats campground. And, be sure to have an Adventure Pass for parking - get before Saturday as the ranger station isn’t open that early.
LONG ROUTE (Summit Hike) is 7 mi one way = ~5 hours, 4K ft elevation gain
(only serious hikers with proper preparation)
Start by 5:00AM or earlier for more break time. Meet near the ranger center. And, be sure to have an Adventure Pass for parking - get before Saturday as the ranger station isn’t open that early.
Summit for Hope - Team California's goal is to raise $50,000.
We ask each hiker to set a minimum fundraising goal of $200 and to use Crowdrise to collect donations.
