Event Theme: Now Is The Time For MAS!
This one-day event is to open educators and community members who are interested in implementing Mexican American Studies in Texas schools or expanding course offerings. Mexican American History, Fine Arts, and Literature courses are currently being offered in high schools and some middle schools across the state. This year’s virtual summit will discuss the future of Mexican American Studies and Ethnic Studies in Texas, and give teachers, administrators, board members and interested people, information and resources to help them implement MAS in their classroom, schools and community.
Texas teachers will receive up to 4 hours of Continuing Professional Education for participating in this Summit.
SCHEDULE
8:45AM-10AM: Plenary Session
10am-12pm: CONCURRENT BREAKOUT SESSIONS
1. Political- to discuss the push for ethnic studies at the legislative, TX SBOE [Texas State Board of Education], and THECB [Texas Coordinating Higher Education Board] levels. The second agenda item will be a report on Mascots and Confederate names in our schools to be pushed at the Legislative, TX SBOE, and THECB.

a. Social Studies
b. Literature
c. Fine Arts
5. Higher Education- to discuss what is going on with the pushing of MAS and other Ethnic Studies at the College/University level
12-1pm: Closing Plenary/Reports from Breakout Sessions (5 minutes each) and Clearing House/Website: https://mas4txschools.org.
