5th Annual Social Work in Sports Symposium
Event Information
Description
The Alliance of Social Workers in Sports (ASWIS) is proud to announce registration options for the 5th Annual Social Work in Sports Symposium. The overall theme of this year’s symposium is integrated behavioral health for athletes. The symposium will bring together the spectrum of behavioral, mental, and physical health professionals who aim to positively influence the mental health and functioning of athletes. In college, professional, and Olympic sports there is a movement towards integrated behavioral health teams that include physicians, trainers, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nutritionists, and other licensed professional counselors. The theme of this symposium represents our efforts to bring these professions together, to present and discuss emerging evidence-based practice, and to embrace various perspectives that will help promote the positive health and well-being of athletes.
This three-day symposium will focus on (1) clinical practice with athletes, (2) research studies focusing on athlete health and well-being, (3) strategies for interprofessional collaboration across sport, and (4) advocacy efforts to influence the governance and politics of sports towards social and economic justice.
Attendees will have a chance to particpate in Ted Talk style presentations, interactive workshops, poster sessions, and panel discussions. There will also be three keynote/featured speakers. We will update the registration with the final list of speakers in the coming weeks.
