Event description

Description

The name garlic comes from garleac, an Anglo-Saxon word meaning "spear leek." However to call garlic by any other it would smell just as exquisite. You may know it by it's other names through history such as Poor Man's Treacle, Lover's Lily, Camphor Of The Poor, Stinking Rose, Nectar Of The Gods or the Lovely Italian Perfume. Whatever you call it, come join us for an evening dedicated to this beautifully fragrant and delicious wonder.

The evenings speakers and topics will be:

  • Patrick Byers, MU Extension Horticulturist

Garlic Growing Overview – including how to choose the best garlic strain, planting and caring for garlic, and the harvest and storage of garlic

  • Pam Duitsman, MU Extension Health and Nutrition Specialist

Garlic Nutrition

  • Rusty Lee, MU Extension Agronomy Specialist

Commercial Garlic Production - a Farmer’s Perspective

The evening will conclude with a garlic tasting. There will not be a sale of garlic due to poor yields 2017-2018.
