The YWLC of the YWCA looks to engage and empower millennial women in the greater DMV area to set and reach their financial goals

About this Event

The Young Women's Leadership Council of the YWCA National Capital Area invites you to our fifth annual Financial Empowerment Summit on November 16th from 10 AM-2:00 PM. Our goal is to engage and empower millennial women in the greater DMV area to set and reach their financial goals. The YWLC recognizes the diversity of what it means to identify as a woman and anyone who believes they belong at the event is welcome!

“Empower Your Change” will be an interactive, customizable event where attendees will hear from personal finance experts from organizations like Merrill Lynch, Bank of America, Menkiti Group and Compass Real Estate on the topics that matter the most to their financial goals. Attendees will spend the day rotating through four 40-minute sessions on various topics and networking with local women and financial experts.

TICKETS: $8 by Nov. 1, $10 by Nov. 16 before event, $15 at the door

FREE for undergraduate and graduate students. FULL Scholarships available upon request. Please contact us at ywlcevents@gmail.com.

Proceeds will go towards program development for a YWCA National Capital Area sponsored Leadership Institute for women interested in running for local government positions.

The session topics (select four at registration*):

Building A Budget: Are you curious about how much per month you should be saving for long-term goals? Do you wonder how to set (and keep!) realistic levels for everyday expenses? We will walk you through building a budget you can stick to - and tools to help you manage that budget on the go.

Paying Down Debt: Are credit cards, loans, or medical expenses weighing you down? Debt is not a life sentence - learn more about creating solid strategies for paying down debts large and small - and tips for preventing additional accumulation in the process.

Managing Your Money Emotions: Are you a stress spender? Do you find that your ledger balance is a reflection of your emotions? Family therapists will walk you through techniques to recognize your "money emotions" and fight past spending your feelings.

Home Buying 101: Preparing to purchase a home? Worried that our community makes it cost prohibitive? Local realtors will walk you through how to prepare for your purchase and resources available to first time homebuyers.

The ABC's of Investment: Thinking of getting into stocks, bonds, and mutual funds? We will discuss the nuts and bolts of starting an investment portfolio.

Make a Lil' Something Extra (*SESSION FULL* Select to add name to waiting list): Curious about how to add some extra income? In this session participants will learn about how to engage in the gig economy (only offered once)

Start Up Life (*SESSION FULL* Select to add name to waiting list) : Want to know more about how to access capital to start a small business? This session will provide more information about local resources for beginning entrepreneurs (only offered once).

Credit Overview: Want to build or improve your credit? Curious what impacts your credit? This session will provide you with tips and tools to help you make your credit score work for you.

Preparing for Elder Care: About 15% of women between the ages of 25-45 take care of an older relative. This can have a significant impact on women's overall earning potential. In this session, learn about how to talk with your loved ones about what future care might look like and begin to prepare.

*Sessions will be filled in order of registration. Final session offerings will depend upon final registration numbers.
