Managing Complexity: Navigating the Turbulent Waters of Healthcare

Healthcare organizations must manage a vast number of regulatory and payor-driven requirements just to keep the doors open. Added to this are a myriad of other internal initiatives to manage cost, clinical quality, and experience of care. If not properly managed, these pressures can lead to overload and burnout of providers and staff.  To successfully navigate such an array of complexities, leadership needs a consistent foundation to survive and succeed in the market: A foundation of Performance Improvement.

This year's Annual Executive PI Summit will blend experience with research to demonstrate how Lean serves as a viable solution for navigating your organizations' complexities.  This year's keynotes include:

Stephen Shortell, PhD

Blue Cross of California Distinguished Professor of Health Policy and Management and Professor of Organization Behavior at the School of Public Health and Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley

Professor Shortell will be sharing findings from the CLEAR Foundations Research studies that describe maturity levels of participating organizations' lean transformation.

James Hereford

President and Chief Executive Officer, Fairview Health System, Minneapolis, MN

As participants in the CLEAR study, James will highlight the work being done at Fairview and how they are leveraging lean to manage the day to day complexities that have become so prevalent for healthcare organizations.

Excutive Panel

Walt Dannenberg, FACHE, CEO VA Long Beach Healthcare System

Lisa Golden, MD, Chief Quality Officer, SF Department of Public Health

Our panel will respond to the research and experiences shared during the keynote, as well as share their perspectives on the state of healthcare complexity and the ways we can leverage performance improvement tools.
