Leaders: Allan Friedman, Sarit Levy and Ed Ravin

A cycling weekend in Montreal for less than the cost of an air ticket - $429!

That’s right, a 3 day, 2 night, fun filled trip to Montreal for just $429.

Friday morning we meet in the Bronx to meet our Bus (location chosen to expedite departure and avoid traffic - there may be a Brooklyn option at the bus parking lot).

We hit the road by 9am SHARP to arrive in Montreal by 5pm. Appropriate travel documentation will be required (US/Canadian Passport or Enhanced Drivers license required - See bottom for useful links here). If you are not sure what to do, please contact Allan Friedman at allan5bbc@gmail.com. You are responsible to have proper documentation before boarding the bus.

Further details of the individual rides will be posted as available, here’s what’s available now:

Included in price:

  • Transportation from Brooklyn or Bronx to Montreal and back with drops in Manhattan and Brooklyn on the return (improvement based on earlier trip feedback)
  • 2 nights hotel accommodation (double occupancy)
  • Registration for Tour La Nuit (Friday Night Ride)
  • Registration for Tour de L'ile (Sunday Day Ride) which includes food at rest stop (Sandwich) if you take one of the longer rides
  • Additional Ride Saturday: "Allan's Unique Hometown Tour De Montreal" (optional, with optional longer spur to do on your own) - or free time to tour the city

Not included in price:

  • Meals
  • Montreal Subway rides if you choose to commute to ride start rather than ride (hotel is 5 miles from start)
  • Admission to any stops on the Saturday trip (e.g.. we may pass the Botanical Gardens, or a museum etc).

Friday night, we join the Tour La Nuit (13 mile ride) at 8:15pm and ride through one of the up and coming parts of Montreal where trendy restaurants abound.

Before and/or after the ride, we’ll find places to eat before heading back to our hotel. Bring lights for night riding!

Saturday, Allan, originally from Montreal, will lead a custom 20-30 mile tour of the Island showing the high points that will not be covered as part of the Tour de l’ile on Sunday which covers half the city's circumference (There is a unique new surprise feature this year they tell us! There will be options to return to the hotel early by subway for those who want to rest up for the longer ride options the next day)

Sunday, we rise early (ride starts between 7am-9am) and get to our unique starting point ahead of the crowd coordinated with ride organizers. Like the 5 Borough Bike Tour, this ride has various levels to encourage new cyclists to come out and ride! The morning 60 mile route allows cyclists to bike around the island and discover the Montréal shoreline with the possibility of shortening the route to 39 miles. The first 45 miles of the ride take place on a marked route open to motorists and the last 15 miles on the regular car-free route of the shorter Tour de l’Île. On the morning of the ride, if you feel like doing the shorter loops of 30 or 18 miles, you will have that option and we will re-connect at the party at the common end point. The Bus will leave from the hotel by 4pm to allow us to get back to Manhattan before midnight (Best efforts. Traffic might make this later).

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Running weekend trips is challenging in an all-volunteer non-profit. In order to assure the financial viability of a trip - the club has a firm NO REFUND policy for any reason. At the same time, if there is a wait list - we will refund where possible to sell the spot to someone waiting for one to come free due to unforeseen circumstances.

Who are the leaders?

Sarit Levy: I ride for fitness, for being outdoors and for spending time with other members of the cycling community. I like socially paced rides because I like to see and enjoy the scenery of all the different places that bike riding allows me to visit. I graduated the 5BBC Leadership class in 2016.

Allan Friedman: I consider myself a social cyclist and enjoy riding not only for fitness but for the ability it gives me to explore my surroundings wherever I am and make new friends. I’m a member of several clubs in the area, but enjoy the 5BBC the most because it truly is New York’s Friendliest Bike Club and I have met literally hundreds of new and interesting friends since joining just over 5 years ago.

The club has a unique leadership development program which I took in 2014, and have been developing and leading rides ever since. The club supports five levels of riding from Happy Face (aka easy) to Quick Spin (fast) and I enjoy riding at various levels, depending on my goal.

Most of the time, I prefer the focus not be on speed but interesting destinations. But I also like riding fundraisers for worthy causes, and those usually involve longer rides like Centuries, and the 5BBC Spring Training Series has proven indispensable in getting me up to speed early in the season so I can take on various centuries. My first was Seagull in Maryland, but I have since done Montauk, Westhampton, Baltimore to Dewey Beach, Boston to Newport and most recently Houston to Galveston.

Originally from Montreal, Canada, and now a citizen of the US as well, the club asked me to re-establish it’s Weekend Trip to Montreal in 2015. We’ve had 3 every successful trips since, and I added Washington DC to my repertoire last year - developing that for the club. As you can see, I have a lot to say but know enough to let people snooze on the bus home after a long day of fun riding and sightseeing.

I am most happy when we grab lunch on any ride, it’s a chance to rest and connect with friends old and new.

Join me!

What's the refund policy?

The 5BBC Club official policy is no refunds. In certain situations where the team managing the trip and the club board agree, a refund may be made when someone can take the place of a participant requesting a refund.

Are there ID or minimum requirements to participate in the trip?

18 years of age and a fun, friendly attitude! You MUST be a member of the 5BBC to join this particular ride. Please sign up here. It's only $25 ($30 for two at the same address) for a full year of cycling and insures our leaders and you.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the trip?

All this will be taken care of - but if you want to drive down for any reason, we can work with you on an exception basis - we are not looking to do this via carpool.

What can I bring along on the trip?

One small soft-sided bag that can fit under the seat else if we have space where the bikes go, if there is room. It's a three day cycling weekend so pack light!

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
