small stories. paintings by mike goldberg
Mike seeks out the small stories of the well lived life in his subject’s well worn face.
In a culture of celebrity Mike’s more interested in that reclusive character he saw every day on New York City’s A train. Or the Italian machinist he encountered in SF’s Mission who’s been crafting cast iron deli slicers for the past 25 years.
They have stories to tell.
Mike's art is more psychological profile than portrait. The paintings are an amalgamation of real people and his imagination as he’s interested in creating an image that provokes a story in the viewers mind that’s hopefully meaningful, iconic and somehow familiar.
Mike paints on found wood using oil bars, working the paint into the texture of the wood with his fingers.
