Join the 52 Hike Challenge and Women who Hike for our first #GivingBack Pop-Up Hike benefiting the Orangewood Foundation.
Through no fault of their own, children and teens enter the foster care system due to abuse and neglect. For over 35 years, Orangewood Foundation has been providing resources and guidance to help these youth overcome their painful pasts and create positive futures for themselves
We, 52 Hike Challenge & Women Who Hike are incredibly grateful and excited to have you participate in this very important hike and cause with us. We are combining two things that are incredibly close to our hearts, hiking and caring for children of the foster system here in Orange County.
This is not just a traditional toy drive. Nicole can attest that your participation and generosity will go a long ways with these children. She has been volunteering in the foster system both at Orangewood and then as a CASA for nearly four years now and a little consideration goes a long ways with a child who has been misplaced from their family, especially during Christmas. Karla from the 52 Hike Challenge has been volunteering at Orangewood for over 4 years now, and it has been one of the most rewarding things she has ever done. Seeing how many kids just need a little help, guidance, and teaching them they are worthy makes a huge difference! Many of these youth have been though so much... let's be selfless this Christmas and show how together as a community, we can come together and make an impact in other people's lives.
We cannot THANK YOU ENOUGH for being a part of this event and opportunity with us, we are so excited for this hike, to meet you and to help show you what a little love can do this time of year for these kids who hold a special place in our hearts.
ABOUT THE HIKE:
We will be hiking approximately 6-7 miles on the trails of the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. This is a beginner-moderate hike with hills and views of the Pacific Ocean. We will meet in the parking lot of the park which is near the trailhead and do intros and collect your donations prior to the hike.
Bring Layers, water, snacks, camera, and 10 essentials.
Your holiday donation of new items from the Orangewood “Wish List” will bring joy to their youth during what is often a painful time for them. You may be surprised to see kitchen and household items and gift cards on the list, in addition to typical “gifts”. Many of the youth are teenagers preparing to transition from the foster care system to adulthood. Others have officially been released from the system at age 18-21, but struggle to make ends meet. The kitchen and household items on the wish list help them set up a home for themselves. Gift cards help them understand the value of things they want to purchase and manage their money accordingly
