Event description
Two-Way Radios will be our life line during a disaster. They will save lives and help us to communicate when nothing else works.

About this Event

The Internet and our Cellphones have become critical parts of our lives.

Can you remember the last time you went anywhere without your cellphone?

But what happens when your cellphone doesn't work or you can't get on the Internet? Do you feel a sense of panic, do you feel withdrawal?

Now imagine how you would feel if you needed help and your cellphone didn't work.

The infrastructure that our interconnected digital world relies on is fragile:

Wind, fire, flood, earthquakes cause our infrastructure to fail every single time.

Time and time again, the last system to stay up are simple two-way radios.

We have a lot of two-way radio communication systems available to use and each has their purpose:

  • Family Radio Service (FRS)
  • General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS)
  • Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS)
  • Commercial / Business Band
  • Amateur / Ham Radio

During the first hour, Gordon West will introduce you to the world of Emergency Radio Communications.

The second hour will go over the Neighborhood Team Program Disaster Radio Communications Plan.

Join us on Wednesday, May 19th, 7pm-9pm on Zoom.

You will need to register on this Eventbrite to receive the email invite for the Zoom Meeting and instructions on how to join.
