ABOUT THE TRIP

This is a self-supported 3 day, 2-night car camping trip to Three Forks Camp area 30 miles South of Jordan Valley Oregon. This trip is all about celebrating the Wild & Scenic River Act:

50th Anniversary of the Wild & Scenic River Act (October 2, 1968)
34th Anniversary of Owyhee Wild & Scenic River Designation in Oregon (October 19, 1984),
30th Anniversary of West Little Owyhee River Wild & Scenic River Designation (October 28, 1988),
9th Anniversary of North Fork, South Fork, and Owyhee River Wild & Scenic River Designation in Idaho. (March 30, 2009)

The purpose of this trip is to explore Outstandingly Remarkable Values that a Wild & Scenic river has to offer from the Ecology, Fisheries & Aquatic Species, Geologic features, Recreational Opportunities, Scenic Beauty, and Wildlife. We are going to Explore the Outstandingly Remarkable Values by a few day hike options, fishing opportunities, and a hot spring soak. Hike options will be:

Hike downstream from camp on the main Owyhee
A History based Hike Up river from Camp
A Hike Up the North Fork Owyhee River from camp

We will hike all day Saturday (8/20). And wrap the trip up with a short morning hike Sunday (8/21). Will we decide final hike locations among folks in camp. We'll send hike maps ahead of time for folks who want to be familiar with where we might go. You should be comfortable with off trail hiking, carrying 1-2L of water, and in physical shape for 2-4 miles of hiking.

TRIP TIMELINE

Friday: Getting There: Meet at Three Forks Campground on Friday night before dark. You will need a vehicle with clearance, but not a 4-wheel drive. If you need assistance/directions on how to get there we can provide them, and we can meet folks in Jordan Valley if you don’t feel comfortable getting there yourself.
Saturday: Leave camp by 9:30a on a hike that was voted on in camp. Return late afternoon. We will share knowledge about the Outstanding Remarkable Values in the area. That evening those who want to we will head to the warm springs near camp. Please bring shoes and clothing you can get wet on our hike. Most hike options here will end up in the water at some point.
Sunday: Have camp packed up by 10 am. Enjoy a short hike in the area, head home by mid-afternoon.

MEETING LOCATION

Meet at Three Forks Campground Friday evening. You need vehicle clearance but not 4-wheel drive to get down here. If you need assistance/directions on how to get there we can provide them, and we can meet folks in Jordan Valley if you don’t feel comfortable getting there yourself. Its fairly simple to get there.
