On February 5, 2013, the Commission will convene in Knoxville, TN to celebrate our 50th Anniversary. This reception will not only celebrate our own anniversary but also acknowledge those in the Knoxville community that were integral in securing equal rights for citizens of this state and country. Please join us at the Beck Cultural Center as we remember our past, reflect on our last fifty years of progress and celebrate our future.

We will be honoring individuals from the Knoxville area who have made a significant impact on civil rights history in Tennessee. The honorees are:

Please join us to learn more about our history, to honor Knoxville community members and share your own stories of civil rights progress in the past fifty years. We will begin at 6:00 pm, Executive Director Beverly Watts will briefly share highlights of our history and invite you to view archived documents and photographs.  After which we hope you will enjoy the reception, view the Beck Cultural Center’s compelling exhibits and connect with community leaders. Tennessee Human Rights Commission

The Commission is an independent state agency responsible for enforcing the Tennessee Human Rights Act & the Tennessee Disability Act which prohibit discrimination in housing, employment and public accomodation on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, religion, sex, disability, familial status (housing only) and age (40 and over in employment only). The Commission also coordinates the state's compliance with the Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which prohibits discrimination by state agencies receiving federal financial assistance.

Our mission is to safeguard individuals from discrimination through enforcement and education.
