Event description

Description

This course will examine the history of the 16th-century Protestant Reformation and how the contested legacy of the Reformation continues to inform theology and society today. We will consider both Protestant and Roman Catholic accounts of the events of the 16th century, and also how the theological themes of Martin Luther and other reformers are assessed by contemporary feminist, black, and liberation theologians. We will conclude by considering ecumenical efforts between Protestants and Catholics as we consider what Christian unity might look like in the future. Students will gain, not only multiple perspectives on the Reformation itself, but also new insights as to how the Reformation continues to shape life in the West for religious and non-religious people alike.
