Event description
Geophysicist Dr. Einat Lev is Randy Cohen's guest as part of the Person Place Thing, 500 Women Scientists Series.

About this Event

Einat Lev is an associate research professor at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO), Columbia University, in New York City.

Dr. Lev's research is focused on the fluid mechanics of volcanic eruptions, and lava flows in particular. She investigates the dynamics and physical properties of magmas and lavas using a combination of numerical models, lab experiments , and field observations, especially using drones.

Dr. Lev studied Geophysics and computer Science at Tel-Aviv University and obtained docctoral degree in geophysics from the Massachusetts Institue of Technology, under the supervision of Prof. Brad Hager. Dr. Lev was a postdoctoral fellow at LDEO, and in 2014 became a research professor there, and established the LDEO Physical Volcanology group.

Person Place Thing is an interview show hosted by Randy Cohen, original NY Times Ethicist columnist, based on the idea that people are particularly engaging when they speak, not directly about themselves, but about something they care about. His guests talk about one person, one place, and one thing that are important to them. This event, the second of three conversations with women scientists at KGB Bar’s Red Room, also features live music by Francois Wiss http://www.francoiswiss.com/index.html. It will be recorded for broadcast on Northeast Public Radio. https://personplacething.org
