C. Crafting Connections - Journey Inside the Mind of Your Customer: Customers expect sellers to know them, understand and anticipate their needs, and help them with their lives. Author and food marketing expert, Dr. Russell Zwanka of SUNY New Paltz will take you inside the complicated mind of today's consumer, exploring the latest tools and techniques for connecting your brand to their wallet.
The event will feature over a dozen samplers at the Thirst & Vine tasting area, and new this year, experience a student pub food competition at The Culinary Institute of America - sponsored by Bellefield at Historic Hyde Park.
Students from The Culinary Institute of America will participate in the Hudson Valley Bar Food Challenge
Students will create a recipe for 10 portions of a "small plate" menu item best served with a locally produced beer, wine, spirit or cider beverage. Three finalists will have their recipes tasted by guests at the 2016 Hudson Valley Beer, Wine, Spirits & Cider Summit.
Parameters for student participants are as follows:
- Appropriate size of portion: 2 to 3 oz total
- Predominant use of indigenous Hudson Valley ingredients
- Portion cost cannot exceed $3
- Prepared with conventional kitchen equipment
- Ability to be scaled to large volume without compromising integrity
- Taste and innovation are key
- Include beverage pairing recommendation
Prizes of Challenge are as follows:
- 1st Place: $1,000 scholarship
- 2nd Place: $300 scholarship
- 3rd Place: $200 scholarship
