4th Annual Berkshire East Wind Festival! BBQ, Wind Turbine Tour & Discounte...
Event Information
Description
Mass Energy/People's Power & Light, the Center for Eco Technology (CET), and Berkshire East invite you to the fourth annual Berkshire East Wind Turbine Festival in Charlemont, MA! We'll eat some BBQ and check out Berkshire East's 900kW wind turbine up-close.
This year, we're celebrating something BIG: In July/August, Mass Energy will be able to offer green electricity to customers in WMECO service territory! If WMECO is your electric utility, this is a great opportunity to come learn about how you can make the switch to clean, local renewable energy!
More details & contact info
On Sunday, July 27, join us for BBQ lunch from Cliff's Smokin' Backyard BBQ, a wind turbine tour, and a mountain top adventure as we celebrate Berkshire East's wind turbine! Come take a chairlift ride up to this 277-foot tall turbine, where you will have a chance to learn how it helped keep this small, family-run business open. After the tour, enjoy optional zip-lining at a discounted price. The turbine tour is open to the public, but be sure to RSVP as soon as possible.
Charlemont is approximately 2.5 hours from Boston. If you're coming from far away, make it a family outing for the day! There's plenty to do in the area.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Marinna Teixeira at marinna@massenergy.org or 617-524-3950 ext. 142.
Riding the Chair Lift & Zip-lining
Zip-lining is optional, but if you want to zip-line you must RSVP in advance--absolutely no one can sign up to zip-line on the day of the event! Important note: Zip-liners must be at least 8 years old (with parental permission) and weigh between 70 and 275 lbs.
Most attendees will take the chair lift up to the turbine (if you do not want to take the chairlift, you may drive (self-guided) up to the turbine site). There could be a short wait for the chair lift, as we have many people to get to the top of the mountain. At the top, you will be led on a 10 minute walk to the wind turbine. The terrain is a bit rocky and includes a steep hill. If you cannot walk this terrain, we recommend you plan to drive yourself up the mountain. After the tour, folks who are zip-lining will depart in groups. Folks who are not zip-lining will take a shuttle back down to the lodge. Important note: Must be at least 8 years old with parental permission to ride the chairlift.
What happens if it rains?
The event will go on in light rain. In extreme weather circumstances, the event will be rescheduled. We will send an email by 7am on the morning of if the event is rescheduled.
Thanks, we hope to see you there!
