LEE MONRO: Lee Monro has been in the Australian Hip Hop industry for a number of years and his career has seen him go from his hometown of Sydney to the U.S and back - collaborating with some of Hip Hop’s biggest names. Working on a solo project at he age of 18 - Lee, formerly known as Figgkidd, created a buzz in the local music scene in 2003 when he signed to Sony BMG and releasing his debut album ‘What is Figgkidd?’ in November 2004. Collaborations for this album saw contribution from Tech N9ne, Red Foo, Proof from D12, Babu from Dilated Peoples along with local artists Selwyn, Jeremy Gregory and some of Lee’s peers. Working closely with his then manager Lui on local label UndaK9, he toured Australia solo and alongside the likes of Nelly and Cypress Hill. This album saw Lee collect the ‘Best New Artist” award at the first Urban Music Awards in Australia. His second self titled release in 2005 saw the last James Brown sample to be signed off by Mr Brown himself used on the lead single ‘Feel Good’, which won and award for best film clip at the Musicoz awards. The track was also used for Channel 10s summer campaign that year. 2006 saw Lee step out of the music industry for a while as he had his first child in 2006, and his second in 2007. After a long hiatus - Lee saw himself re-invent himself as part of a duo with local West Sydney emcee Ello C. 2012 saw them release their first mixtape ‘Overtime’ which gained quite a bit of traction locally - and earning them the rights to share the stage with The Game, DJ Quik and Kurupt, Twista, Bone Thugs & Harmony, OT Genasis and 360 - to name a few. The duos music had been played on Triple J and The Edge 96.1 and had also got them shows in Washington DC. The second release ‘Overtime 2’ and third release ‘OT3’ saw the duo grow and collaborate with some of Australia’s best - including 360, Will Singe, Kennyon Brown, Mr Clean, Mistah Mez, Jordan Greig, B Wise, Thandie Phoenix, Ninah Nicole, Poetik and Soul Benefits. After making quite a stamp in the local scene - the duo split in 2017. At the moment Lee is working on his own solo project while featuring as a host on The Edge 96.1. 2018 will see him release his next studio project and take on new opportunities in radio also.
