4/1 Dynamic Shooting Drills Day
Sat, April 1, 2017, 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM PDT
Students, friends, and fellow second amendment suppporters: Welcome to the proving ground for the modern Warrior Scholar.
This is an event open to all shooters with basic gun handling experience. While many of us own guns, few get to train often. Rarely do we have the chance to draw from holsters, shoot on the move, engage multiple threats, or conduct teamwork and problem solving drills alongside like minded friends. Dynamic Shooting Drills Day is an event specifically designed to offer what the "Square Range" doesn't: Guided, safe, and challenging shooting exercises that will stretch you mentally, physically, and emotionally. Join the ranks of the modern martial art with fellow students of gunfighting. Test your limits of precision and speed under mild to severe stress. Push yourself to be faster, stronger, smarter and be better prepared to protect your loved ones in time of violent emergency.
Every event is different, but here is an example from a previous shoot:
Bring whatever handguns and holsters you'd like, shotguns are welcome and you may transition back and forth. Each drill is tailored to the skill level of the participants, and can be easily adjusted to suit your equipment. If you've never used a holster before, we'll go over how to do so safely in the morning. I would recommend bringing at least 300 rounds of ammunition. Rifle caliber carbines (5.56x45, 7.62x39, 5.54x39, 5.7x28, 300AAC etc.) are welcome, and for which I will set up rubber or paper targets. For shotguns, buckshot is welcome, with lead shot only (no steel shot). Eye and ear protection, as well as closed-toe shoes are mandatory. Please dress for the weather, and bring water/snack. We shoot rain or shine.
Cost for the event will be $45, RSVP is required. Please register here using Eventbrite.
We'll meet at the private cowboy range at Coyote Valley Sporting clays around 9:30am for waivers and to set up. Safety briefing at ~9:50am, then shoot from about 10am - 2pm. Then we'll clean up, and get some food. They cater a BBQ lunch for us on the clubhouse patio (bring cash), and cold beer is waiting for you as well.
If you've got experience as a firearms instructor or range safety officer: I would love your help! Reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or 408-892-5460.
Questions? Comments? Ideas and suggestions for drills to shoot? Leave 'em below and let's have a great time! Know some friends who enjoy a challenge? Please share and invite them!
Is there an age limit to enter the event?
Parental discretion for children is all that we ask. Generally speaking 10-12 and up, so long as they have handled fireams before, will do fine. Parents need to be present for minors.
I don't have a holster, is that okay?
That won't be a problem. Either I or one of your peers will have a spare to loan you, or you're welcome to shoot from your preferred ready position.
Can I wear/shoot a backup gun for the drills?
Yes by all means, you are welcome to use a second or third gun as you wish.
My friend wants to attend, but he/she has never shot before. Can he/she come?
While I could never turn away an interested new shooter, be mindful that others are here to shoot fast and train hard. You as well should be focused on pushing your limits as a marksman and martial artist. I'd invite them to come observe, or else contact me and we can schedule an appripriately paced first class for them first, then they can get the most from the experience!
What can/can't I bring to the event?
Do not consume any alcohol or mind altering substances before or during the shooting. Once we have finished and packed up you are welcome to crack open a cold one if you wish. Dogs are allowed on the facility, and there is shade and water where they can hang out.
Please no steel core, armor piercing, incidiary, or tracer ammunition.
