About this event

People are dying to get in for our second annual cemetery walk, just ask your friends!

Experience the personal stories of some of Clinton County’s famous and historical citizens who now lie at rest among the landscape of this beautiful “outdoor museum” called Sugar Grove Cemetery.

Join the History Center for a self-guided walking tours to meet many of the people who made Clinton County what it is today.

Costumed interpreters will represent residents from the past and await you at their gravestones.

U.S. Congressional Representative, Matthew Rombach Denver, George M. Austin - Wilmington physician and world renowned geologist and archaeologist, Judge Charles Kirk & Mrs. Dorothy Kirk, Commodore William Fitzhugh, the Sabin Family— and many more will be there! The Henry Casey Camp 92, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will also be joining the event.

Bring the entire family to enjoy this unique historical experience, open to all ages!

  • Self-guided tours depart every 15 minutes during the event. Please arrive promptly 5-10 minutes prior to your ticketed time for check-in purposes.

Comfortable walking shoes are encouraged. Limited golf cart transportation shuttle stops will be available for those with restricted mobility. Handicap parking will be inside the cemetery gates, all other parking will be located along Truesdell and Mulberry Streets as well as the parking lot near the bike path (parking map coming soon).

Pre-sale tickets are available online or for purchase at the History Center at 149 E. Locust St. from September 2- Oct 1. Physical tickets can be purchased beginning September 2 at the Center weekly, Wednesday-Friday 9-11 a.m. or 1-4 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m. We will also have tickets for sale at our booth at the Clinton Co. Corn Festival (September 9-11).

Limited amount of day-of-event tickets will be available onsite at the cemetery, Sat. Oct 8: Active History Center members cost is $15, non-members will cost $25 at the gates.

POLICIES & RULES:

    This event will be outdoors and will move forward in the case of clear weather or a light sprinkle of rain. Should it be a downpour, the event will moved to Saturday, Oct. 15 with your ticket entry time remaining the same. Please dress accordingly.

    This event is hosted within an active cemetery. Please be respectful of the grounds and mindful of any headstones or gravesites. Sugar Grove Cemetery must be treated with the upmost respect while attending the program. Please stay on the path/route(s) provided.

    By attending this event, you are consenting to having your photo taken and used for promotional purposes for the Clinton County Historical Society INC.

    No ticket refunds except in the case of program cancellation - this is a fundraiser for our organization. COVID-19 related refunds will be considered on a case by case basis. Your ticket purchase helps forward our non-profit mission of Clinton County history and genealogy.

    You are assuming any risk of participating in this activity. By participating you agree to not hold Clinton County Historical Society INC. accountable should you contract COVID-19. By purchasing a ticket and participating in this event you are entering Sugar Grove Cemetery at your own risk. The majority of our tour is on blacktop, however it does sometime venture onto uneven ground and some hills. Please use caution when attending.

    An ASL sign language interpreter will be available as needed; please notify us ahead of time if you require this service by emailing info@clintoncountyhistory.org
