Family mediation gives people who are divorcing or separated and co-parenting a creative alternative to the family courts for making decisions about their relationship, and how they impact their children's lives. It is a cooperative and constructive way to resolve differences and plan for the future. Minnesota District Court requires that alternatives to court be considered early in the dissolution process. Certified Family Mediation Skills provides the opportunity to become a qualified family facilitative neutral under The General Rules of Practice for the District Courts Rule 114.

Expert instructors, bring years of experience as a mediator, parenting time expediter, parenting consultant and custody evaluator. The course covers conflict resolution and emotional issues surrounding family issues, as well as learning specific techniques for mediating parenting and property disputes. Special attention is paid to identifying families experiencing domestic violence. A variety of teaching methods are used, including demonstrations, role play, and discussion. The trainers approach to the material, practice expertise and interaction with participants encourages reflective practice. Students learn from each other's experiences and often form enduring professional ties.

Participants of this training will be coming from multiple cultural backgrounds, which will offer a unique opportunity to experience conflict resolution through multiple cultural lenses. The training will be in English only.
