UPDATE #2: Due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict, this event has been canceled. My sincerest apologies for the inconvenience, hopefully we can set this up again sometime in the future. This one's for the singles in our group!
I've made special arrangements with The Barking Dog for this event. We'll each experience a dozen first dates in one evening with numerous single young professionals of the opposite sex.
We will check in, each receive a name tag with a unique number on it, as well as an index card on which we'll print our name, our unique number, and our email address, starting at 6pm.
After check-in, for the first hour, we will rotate every 4 minutes and meet over a dozen new single friends, starting at 6:45pm.
Please note we will not get to "date" everyone, however we still have the next hour to meet others during the "open social" portion of the event. We'll then write down the unique number of those we'd like to see again and hand the card back in. TIP: Write down the name and number of everyone you meet on your card as you meet them (you can always scratch it out later), doing so is expected and perfectly acceptable for this type of event. (The following week after the event, typically no later than Wednesday, we'll receive an email with any mutual matches.)
For those that haven't been there before, The Barking Dog is a great pub, which encourages a pleasant and friendly setting for us to interact.
Please note the men-to-women signup ratio will be at or near 50:50. Come event time, sometimes we have no shows, which means there may be more of one sex than the other (usually only a few). This means that some people may be on a "break" here and there. When this happens, we typically extend the speed dating portion of the event a few more rotations to make up for it.
Also, please note with everyone talking at the same time during the "dating" portion of this event, this event tends to be loud. So please rest your voice and your ears!
We've got an early bird special for this event of $20 (the price of 2 cocktails at many lounges / clubs)! The first 55 paid sign-ups, or those who pay by Sun. Jan. 1st get the early bird price! After that, the ticket price will go to $25. We have a LIMITED number of spots so make sure to RSVP early AND make payment to secure your spot and get the early bird price! Metro and Parking
The closest Metro is Bethesda (Red line). I suggest Metro / cabbing / Uber'ing if you can. I also recommend using wmata.com for travel planning. Don't forget to account for Metro, traffic, and parking delays. If you are driving, you will need to find street parking or a garage. I recommend using parkopedia.com for garage parking planning.
DO ask unique and interesting questions e.g. “What superpower would you most like to have?” (as opposed to typical questions such as “What do you do?” and “Where are you from?”). DO smile and make eye contact. DO write down the name and number of each person on your card when you first meet them. DON’T feel awkward doing so. Everyone is there for the same reason and writing someone’s name and number is appropriate for this event (you can always scratch off the name later if you decide to).
If you are late (arrive after the start time of 6pm), you risk the possibility of not being able to join us for the event. I will have a master list of all those that have paid. It’s not required, but I recommend printing out your payment confirmation as a backup. When you check-in, your RSVP will be listed under the name of the PayPal or credit card account used to make payment. Typically, this is your LEGAL name as shown on your driver's license. Sometimes, it may be under a company name if you set up your PayPal or credit card account that way. If you are not sure what it is, please log into your PayPal account (it will say "Welcome, [your account name]" at the top) or your credit card account to find out. If you are RSVP'd under someone else's payment, please use that name for check-in.
Since we pay in advance for this event, all sales are final unless the event is canceled or rescheduled. If the event is canceled or rescheduled, an UPDATE will be posted at the top of the event posting, and the UPDATE will also be sent as an email to the yes RSVPs. A full refund will be submitted no later than Wednesday of the following week. For rescheduled events, you must let us know within 3 calendar days of the UPDATE email if you are unable to make the new date... no refunds will be given after that time. Similar to a concert ticket or a football game ticket, you are free to sell your ticket to someone else (same sex only) if you are unable to attend. I suggest posting in the comment box for the event, that you have a ticket for sale. Work out payment between yourselves, and have the seller only send the organizer a "message" through their Meetup profile (do not comment in the comment box of the event posting) letting me know the first AND last name, and Meetup profile URL (if a member) of the person taking your spot (please also copy them on the message). I host a lot of events and groups, so please let me know the event name and group name the ticket transfer is for. You must let me know by the RSVP close time of 2:30pm on the day of the event.
Should inclement weather (e.g. snow storm, hurricane, etc.) affect our event, we'll need to reschedule or cancel. If any one of the following is not available for service due to inclement weather, we'll need to do so: Metrorail is not running to all stops; Uber (X, SUV, etc.) is not running or available at no more than 2x standard rates; venue(s) are not open. I'll post an UPDATE to the top of the event posting by 3pm on the day of our event with the details.
If you have any special needs (e.g. wheelchair, dietary for events with food included, etc.), let us know in advance (a week or more before the event) and we will do our best to accommodate (message me through my Meetup profile).
