UNESCO SDG 4C: The contribution for education of Translational Research models and their impact: MESHGuides workshop (+AGM)

This workshop is designed to introduce the UNESCO SDGs for teacher education and the way that Translational Research models provide avenues to increase impact on learning.

MESHworkshop and AGM, 4 July 2019 Wednesday, 10.30-15.30 De Montfort University, Leicester

This workshop is open to all with an interest in the UNESCO SDGs for teacher education, for translational research, research and evidence-based practice in education and improving the impact of research on practice. Charities, other funders of research and researchers will find advice on how to increase impact and research of their research.

This workshop is designed

  • To introduce 5 tested models for translational research in the education sector (Younie et al 2018) as well as to introduce the MESH translational research approach to those for whom it is new
  • For MESHGuide authors and users to meet up with others and the MESH team
  • To introduce MESHAnalytics- an interface with Google’s analytics App which allows MESHGuide authors to track, on their mobile devices where their research is being read, and by how many people.

The Education Futures Collaboration charity supporting MESH will also hold its AGM before the seminar starts..

The workshop is open to all but numbers are limited.

Translational Research – what is it?

The concept of 'translational research' i.e. theory to practice research and publications is still new to the education sector but is widely understood in the medical sector where there are Institutes for Translational Research, Journals for Translational Research and so on.

This workshop will introduce you to the concept of translational research as well as the five models for translational research developed from years of testing for the education sector. Detail is being published in Younie et al (forthcoming) in

Mobilising Knowledge through Global Partnerships to Support Research-informed Teaching: Five Models for Translational Researchin Evidence based knowledge for teaching (special edition). Journal of Education for Teaching V44 (5).

Earlier thinking is outlined in the Journal of Education for Teaching special edition V41 (5) Translational Research and Knowledge Mobilisation in Education.

MESH is an international network of educators who have come together to create cost-effective models for translational research in the education sector.

MESHGuides are research summaries focused on practical advice which links back to the indepth research.
