About Florida 4-H Shooting Sports

About YES!

The Young Ecology & Conservation Series (YES!) is a unique University of Florida / IFAS / Brevard County Extension 4-H pilot program for youth ages 10 to 16. The mission of YES! is to teach and inspire young people to learn about and conserve their natural outdoor environment with a combination of hands-on, classroom and field activities. YES! also invites parents of kids to participate and explore the possibility of leading a club.

The goal of YES! is to give young people a broad overview of our Florida ecology and tangible skills to thrive and participate in nature, as well as an appreciation for the methods of sustaining our fragile ecosystem. Side benefits of the program include having fun, meeting new people and getting to know some of our local outdoor treasure sites, organizations and related programs.

The Instructor

The primary instructor for all YES! classes is Gus Koerner, 4-H Program Assistant in Brevard County. Other experts and partnering organizations are contributing to the program. Mr. Gus is a certified instructor in all major shooting sports disciplines through 4-H, Florida FWC, the National Rifle Association and the National Muzzleloader Rifle Association. Safety, youth protection, life skill development and fun encompass his teaching core values.

Our Partners

Some of our partners include Brevard County Parks and Recreation Department, the Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club and the Titusville Rifle and Pistol Club, the Cocoa YMCA, the FL Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Brevard County Sheriff's Office and this list is growing!
