The 2020 4-H Computer Science (CS) Virtual Conference.

About this Event

The 4-H Computer Science (CS) Virtual Conference will take place during CS Ed Week this December hosted by National 4-H Council in partnership with Google. This three day - half day conference delivered through Zoom will cover what you need to know to get started in CS. Computer science and computational thinking (CT) is everywhere around us, from horse competitions to quilting! Learn from specialists and educators in the field on how to wrap CS programming into your current work or start your own 4-H CS program. Discover how easy it is to learn CS and how applying CT concepts can make a positive impact in your youth program. Connect with peers from across the nation and form a community of practice to learn and grow with.

Participants will choose and register for one project track for the duration of the conference to learn about and build an action plan for their CS program.

Dates: December 8th, 9th and 10th, 2020

Time: 1:00pm-3:30pm (EST), Everyday

* NOTE: Please only register ONE E-mail address per track . Do not register for multiple tracks using the same email address.

Once registered, you will be receiving an email confirming your registration along with a calendar invitation.

Track Descriptions:

Ag & Food CS: Participants will learn how computer science affects how we grow our food and how we can use computational thinking concepts like algorithms to create nutritious well balanced meals.

Makerspace CS: Participants will learn how to use the tinkering and creative environment of a Makerspace to let youth’s imagination run wild and teach them concepts like the Computational Thinking process like analyzing, testing, and refining to enhance their maker projects.

CS Software: Participants will learn the basics of popular coding languages and how to teach them to youth. Learning code can be fun and engaging like learning any other language. By learning code youth will understand how the language of computer science affects our lives everyday.

CS Hardware: Participants will learn about the building blocks of Computer Science hardware. From your phone to your coffee maker, computational hardware is in almost everything we interact with on a daily basis. Learning the foundation of CS hardware will teach youth how and why computational devices work
