4 DAY INTRODUCTORY EXPERIENTIAL DYNAMIC THERAPY TRAINING COURSE FOR PROFESS...
This is an intensive learning experience, focusing on a range of techniques involved in these highly effective types of therapy. The course involves skill development, exercises, video case material and theoretical teaching. It also provides participants with therapeutic and practice resources which supports all types of therapeutic work, as well as being an excellent preparation for undertaking a core training in EDT, including Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy.
This course is an exciting learning experience supporting therapists to improve their therapeutic relationships and outcomes irrespective of the models they currently use. We focus on close monitoring and regulation of anxiety, defenses (coping strategies which disrupt the relationship and the work), and the critical or neglecting part of the self (sometimes called the superego). Paying close attention to these parts, we make considered decisions about the timing of experiential, emotion focused work. Carefully chosen video segments highlight the theory and process, show the complexity as well as the impact of closely attuned and connected therapeutic work.
The course runs for three consecutive days with a follow up day 6-10 weeks later. Group members are also invited to take part in supported peer supervision sessions to actively and deliberately support their learning and development between the course dates. Additional materials are provided to facilitate learning beyond the course so that the learning can be safely and effectively implemented in clinical sessions.

What suggested reading is there for the course?
The reading I am suggest is the book "Co-creating Change" by Jon Frederickson which is available on kindle or paperback. Reading the first six chapters will really support the learning on this course as well as psychotherapuetic practice generally. This book is award winning (BMA - best mental health or psychiatry book of 2013) and is the best book on working therapeutically I have read

Past participant feedback
"Jessica provided a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment in which to develop skills in this excellent therapy model. This course was excellent value for money."

"The strategies and techniques I learnt on the course has helped me to achieve a better focus with my clients . It was also particularly useful in helping me to use greater precision in empowering individuals to identify defences and turn against them (e.g. the technique of encouraging an individual to characterize the super-ego and the collection of punative defences that it employs). Thank you again for a really enjoyable and valuable few days."
"Incredibly flexible and responsive as a training event. Truely inspiring. Thank you so much for the skills workshop. It was inspiring and informative and help to deal with technical issues I was unclear about. In terms of my clinical practice, I feel that this workshop has helped me to 'soften' my work, be far more attentive to my patients and to put care and anxiety regulation more to the forefront of my work. I aslo feel that I have (and hopefully will continue to do so) learn a lot from you personally as a highly skilled 'on model' clinician who has integrated the model with your lovely warm, open-hearted personality. It was a joy and a priviledge and I look forward to continuing to learn with you."

"I think the opportunity to be given some supervision on our cases was really helpful and the insights from this supervision session have stayed with me since completing the course. As good as the year of core training I was part of but the focus on the theory was brilliant and really important – a really good balance between developing skills and understanding why these skills really help people – from a theoretical perspective. Really good group size, great atmosphere which really encouraged conversation, reflections and questions. Location worked really well, very homely, comfy and plenty of space. The skills practise felt quite repetitive, but then I remember them well so maybe that was a good thing!! Good balance between theory and practise I thought – time for supervision with Jess really valuable and much appreciated!"
