Oil painter Jackie Kerr Smith, who presents “Nature Revealed,” has been painting portraits, still lifes and landscapes in oil for over 25 years. This exhibition features Jackie’s artistic vision through a process of repeated layers of oil paint and cold wax applied to a panel and then selectively scraped away. In this manner the beauty of the natural world is revealed and expressed in glimpses of woods and glens as well as waters and rocky surfaces.

Jackie’s paintings hang in private homes and businesses throughout the country. More recently she has discovered that mixing a cold wax medium into her oil paint allows her to build up several layers of color and texture while creating a translucency that is not possible with oil alone. Scraping back into the paint layers or using a solvent to reveal underlying layers allows for beautiful and usually unexpected effects. This process of addition and subtraction fascinates her and stimulates her creative process as she explores the infinite possibilities this process allows. Cash bar.
