ARE YOU INTERESTED IN LEARNING MORE ABOUT AFRICAN HERITAGE AND CULINARY HISTORY?

As part of 3rd on Third in celebration of Black History Month, The San Francisco Chapter of The Links Inc presents “A Taste of African Heritage” – healthy and delicious cultural eating traditions of African Heritage for good health and community. Learn about the African Heritage Diet Pyramid by Oldways – a healthy eating model designed specifically for African descendant populations everywhere. It can be used by anyone wanting to use heritage as a guide to eating well. The pyramid celebrates the individual foods and traditional healthy eating patterns of African Heritage, with roots in Africa, America, the Carribean, and South America.

The foods of African Heritage contain lots to be celebrated, and they begin with the main ingredient of African American cooking today—flavor!

Chef April Spears

Chef April Spears of Auntie April's is joining us at the Pop Up Community Market to share her classic recipes in celebration of African-American culture. Celebrated winner of Bayview Sunday Streets’ ‘People’s Choice Shrimp N Grits Contest’, April will show you how to give her traditional favorite recipe a healthier twist! April's recipes are a unique blend of Southern flavors, which has made her take on homestyle food a local favorite.

Changing habits to embrace health through heritage takes a community working together.

SFLinksConnect: Building Healthy Communities Together is our signature preventive health and wellness program which enables the SF Links to be a primary resource for the Bayview Hunters Point community by partnering with community organizations to provide information aimed at improving the personal health and wellness of its residents.

Pop Up Community Market is located inside the Bayview Opera House.

Register early. Seats are limited to 25.
