3rd Annual Verna Mize Triathlon

"Verna Mize was a pioneer for Lake Superior in the environmental movement back in 1967. The standard at the time was to dump the shavings of iron ore pellets into the lake with the proposal being, "the solution to pollution is dilution."She refused this reply and convinced the Federal Government and the states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota to bring a lawsuit against the company. The law suit was settled in favor of the people and the companies are now dumping on land effectively saving Lake Superior from certain destruction." Credit to Charles Eshbach for the details. Verna Mize almost single handidly saved Lake Superior from pollution and to honor her efforts we race in and around that same lake.

ENTRY FEE TO BE PAID THAT MORNING:

The race is currently funded privately by the residents of Houghton and all proceeds go to covering the cost of setting up the event with the community.
