Third annual Slow Food Sacramento Edible Bike Tour
Saturday, September 7, 2013, 9:30-1:00
$10 per person

Do you think you don't have space or appropriate light for a backyard garden?  Join us to see how several ingenious Sacramentans are using found spaces to grow their own food.  We'll visit an aquaponics operation that uses the natural fertilizer from fish metabolism to grow greens for a local restaurant; an informal community garden shared by several apartment dwellers; a large garden on a vacant lot.  In addition, we'll visit the Midtown Farmers' Market to learn about the Food Literacy Project and attend a press conference proclaiming September as Food Literacy Month.  We'll also visit the River City Food Bank to learn how they are sourcing fresh and healthy food for their clients.

Meet at the River City Food Bank, 1800 28th Street, 9:30

You'll have an opportunity to purchase snacks or drinks at the Midtown Farmers' Market if you'd like.

Bring a helmet, bike lock, water, money (if you wish to purchase anything from the farmers' market or join us for lunch or snacks at the end of the tour).  Everyone will be required to sign a liability release.  The ride will cover about 3-4 flat miles in Midtown and Southside Park areas of Sacramento.  Children are welcome to join us.

Organizer

Slow Food Sacramento

Slow Food Sacramento is the Sacramento region's convivium, or chapter, of Slow Food USA. We are an active, all-volunteer chapter that hosts a wide range of educational and convivial events throughout the year to introduce you to the producers and creators of some of the region's outstanding foods, farms, and restaurants. You'll meet the leaders who champion locally and sustainably produced vegetables, fruits, wines, meats, and cheeses. You'll become part of a network to improve access to good, clean, and fair food for all in the Sacramento region.
