May is National Mental Health Awareness Month! Come join the celebration as Ridgeview Behavioral Health Services hosts a celebration of mental health on their climbing tower lawn from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event is open to the public - come enjoy twenty vendors, the climbing tower, music, and a free hot dog and drink, while quantities last. The public will help welcome and celebrate the arrival of bicyclists around 12:00 p.m.

Ridgeview joins with the East Region Department of Children's Services, the Tennessee Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services, and other mental health advocates to ride bicycles 15 miles on Hwy 61 from DCS offices in Clinton to Ridgeview in Oak Ridge to promote the mental health needs of children and their families. Join us as we stamp out the stigma associated with mental health treatment and promote the use of early mental health screenings for children & adults!

PURPOSE: Together we can change the way we think about mental health through prevention strategies, early screening, and public awareness. By working together and promoting #B4Stage4, we strengthen the likelihood of improved outcomes in prevention, screening, treatment, and permanency.

The Ride for Hope began as an idea between DCS regional leadership and Ridgeview. The objective was to engage in an team activity that would model protective factors important to health and wellbeing, while also promoting Mental Health America’s national theme of early screening #B4Stage4.

“By pedaling a message of hope, we signal change in the way we view mental health care,” says Brian Buuck, CEO of Ridgeview. “Early mental health screening for children and adults is good for our communities and is good practice,” added Buuck. "We hope others will join us in spreading this good news and change the way we view mental health services and early screening B4Stage4.” The public is invited to celebrate the arrival of the riders at Ridgeview on May 5 @ Noon and enjoy the vendors, food, music, and climbing tower.
