Description

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Please join us for this FREE EVENT as we seek to raise awareness of domestic violence. Come and hear our speakers and become educated on ways to prevent and stop the abuse. By organizing this March, we hope to empower not only the victims and the bystanders, but to help shift attitudes that perpetuate abuse and to highlight the reality that domestic violence is everyone's business.

Domestic violence should not happen to anyone, EVER, but it does, and when it does we want you to know that there is help. No matter who you are, you probably know someone who has been affected by domestic violence. A may be a friend, a co-worker, your sister, your daughter, a neighbor, or even YOU.

Domestic violence has long been considered a woman's issue, but we are here to tell you that everyone is affected by it.

►In homes where domestic violence occurs, children are abused at a rate 1,500 percent higher than the national average.
►Women are most likely to be killed when attempting to leave the abuser. In fact, they're at a 75 percent higher risk than those who stay.
►A child's exposure to the father abusing the mother is the strongest risk factor for transmitting violent behavior from one generation to the next.

These statistics are frightening and they are only some of the statistics. What is also frightening is that abuse still remains to a large degree hidden. The victim stays silent because of fear and shame and the abuser wants his behavior hidden.

PLEASE JOIN US AS WE MARCH TO END THE SILENCE!!!
