Event Details

The 3rd annual K is for Kids From the Heart Teen Fashion Show will be hosted by Barron Collier High School in Naples, Saturday, February 1. The evening's events take place in the school's auditorium and includes a silent auction beginning at 6:00 p.m. and fashion show at 7:00 p.m.

Child models from pre-Kindergarten through 'tweens will start the evening's entertainment. Teens will also perform talent acts throughout the show. This year student organizers will be award cash prizes to the top three talent acts (judges to be announced). Also new this year, a scholarship will be given to a young entrepreneur who participates in the show.

The evening's proceeds, including books collected and the funds to buy new books, will benefit K is for Kids' Rising Readers program for Collier County students with a percentage going towards Barron Collier High's Helping Hands for Prom. In honor of K is for Kids' "Bring a Book, Bring a Friend" month celebrated throughout February, guests are encouraged to bring a book suitable for a child. Books are needed for kids of all ages, from toddlers to teens.  Students may earn community service hours for their book donations and for bringing a friend. In addition, the first 200 people to arrive at the show will receive goodie bags with merchant coupons and a complimentary copy of “The Caterpillar Way” signed by New York Times bestselling author Craig Bouchard.

Tickets prices are $5.00 for students through high school and $8.00 for adults if purchased in advance, then $10 at door. Children 5 and under get into the event for free.  High school and college students may earn community service hours for attending.

Presented by Signature Group Holdings and Arthrex, the show is a student community project "building readers and leaders" and is a partnership of K is for Kids Foundation and Barron Collier High, in collaboration with Collier County Public Schools. Top sponsors include Melissa and Craig Bouchard, Southwest Florida Modeling Agency, the Naples Daily News, Comcast, and ITZ Media Group/SWFL Charity TV. The show has broad community support with more than 50 businesses and organizations supporting the teens' efforts.

The latest fashions in clothing, jewelry, hair and make-up will be showcased by A. Jaron Fine Jewelry, Angelrox, Brooks Brothers, Buckle, Cache', D’Amici Salon & Spa, Francesca's, Gap, Gigi's Children's Boutique, Impressions, Men's Wearhouse, Ooh La La! Jewels Du Jour, the Paul Mitchell School-Ft. Myers, PGA Tour Superstore and Simply Natural.

Additionally, students produced a Public Service Announcement promoting the event that is airing on Comcast.

About K is for Kids Foundation
K is for Kids® is a unique student volunteer-based nonprofit organization with kids on both the giving and receiving ends of our mission building readers and leaders. The Foundation encourages literacy and a love of reading in children of all ages by enriching their libraries at school and at home. Teens serve as role models to children and help build the stepping-stones for strong readers – giving books, encouragement and recognition – while earning community service hours, boosting resumes and developing leadership and communication skills in a real world setting. Join the Foundation during its February “Bring a Book, Bring a Friend®” for Children’s Literacy Month when teens create “fun’raisers” to inspire kids to read more & dream more.

K is for Kids Foundation, in partnership Barron Collier High School and in collaboration with Collier County Public Schools.

K is for Kids® is a unique student driven volunteer-based nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization building readers and leaders with kids on both the giving and receiving ends of our grassroots mission.

Through Operation:Outreach students create a "Ladder for Leaders" for other teens with the motto "Climb Higher. Help Others."  Students create and manage projects utilizing entrepreneurial principles to give kids in need more books to read while offering other high school students more opportunities to earn community service hours, boost their resumes and apply their skills outside of the classroom in a real world setting.

Through its focused efforts, K is for Kids cultivates the skills kids need to be creative thinkers, adventurous problem solvers and visionary leaders.  Reading and dreaming, learning and leading, creating and achieving:  That's K is for Kids!

Join us as we celebrate February's Bring a Book, Bring a Friend for Children's Literacy Month when our student leaders and young philanthropists host events to raise money and collect books for children in need.
