In a time of holiday traditions trampled under rampant consumerism, there must emerge a force for sanity and serenity; now is the time for a Festivus miracle.
Such a miracle will arrive appropriately on Friday December 23rd, when the Hydraulic Hearth restaurant & brewery, Community Beer Works (CBW), and the S. Thomas Group will unite to present a proper celebration of Festivus - "the holiday for the rest of us."
To the tunes of DJ Cutler’s obscure holiday record collection, The Hearth will offer their signature brick oven pizzas, shared plates, craft cocktails and beers including house-brewed CBW selections, along with profoundly essential elements of Festivus such as Feats of Strength, Airing of Grievances, and of course, an unadorned Festivus pole for all to behold. Further, the 8 PM party will be preceded by one grand round of S. Thomas’ perennially sold-out Seinfeld trivia competition (6 PM trivia seating), with winners earning gifts from the co-hosts.
“This collaboration is truly a Festivus miracle,” said CBW partner/consigliere Christopher Smith. “We expect to enjoy a lot of beer, which will amplify our Airing of Grievances and embolden our Feats of Strength. However, we don’t expect the festivities to run too late – with the combined strength of both our brews and brewers, we should have Hydraulic Hearth host Harry Zemsky successfully pinned to the floor by midnight.”

Hydraulic Hearth’s inaugural Festivus celebration in 2014 bore witness to many Festivus miracles, including a show-stopping Elaine dance-off, a puffy-shirted DJ Cutler, and a tie score in the Seinfeld trivia competition that led to victory via traditional Festivus feat of strength - stein-holding competition.
The doors open at 5:30 pm for trivia (reservations only), and from 8-12 enjoy the tunes of DJ Cutler’s obscure holiday record collection, interrupted only by the airing of the grievances, the Elaine dance-off, and a new feat of strength this year - a CBW keg pushup contest. Hydraulic Hearth’s kitchen will be open until 12 AM offering brick oven pizzas and shared plates, with the bar open until midnight serving craft cocktails and beers including house-brewed CBW selections. And of course, the Festivus pole will be on display in the window, unadorned.
“Festivus,” said Hydraulic Hearth proprietor Harry Zemsky. “For the rest of us."
