A symposium designed to help the sports medicine professional stay current and apply new techniques in the rehabilitation of athletes of all kinds.

MEET THE PRESENTERS
Kathleen Weber, M.D., M.S.
Dr. Weber is Director of Primary Care/Sports Medicine and Women's Sports Medicine at Rush University Medical Center. Dr. Weber also serves as a team physician for the Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Force Women's Football, and is head team physician for DePaul University.
Dr. David Fardon
Dr. Fardon came to Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush from Southeastern Orthopaedics, where he led a distinguished career in clinical orthopaedic medicine, spinal surgery, academic pursuit, and national leadership. He has authored numerous scientific articles, textbook chapters, and books addressing disorders related to the spine, including coeditorship of the prestigious Orthopaedic Knowledge Update for Spine II.
Dr. Nikhil Verma
Dr. Verma specializes in treatment of the shoulder, elbow and knee with an emphasis on advanced arthroscopic reconstructive techniques of the shoulder, shoulder replacement, knee ligament reconstruction and articular cartilage reconstruction and meniscal transplantation. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Dr. Verma completed his orthopaedic residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. He serves as a team physician for the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls, and Nazareth Academy. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Verma is actively involved in orthopaedic research with interests in basic science, biomechanics and clinical outcomes, and has recently received funding for his work from Major League Baseball.
Dr. Michael Joyce
Dr. Joyce trained at the finest institutions in the country. He attended Medical School at Washington University, ranked in the top 10 medical schools in the country. Dr. Joyce spent a year of advanced fellowship training in sports medicine at the prestigious American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama, with internationally respected sports medicine expert Dr. James Andrews and Dr. William Clancy, the pioneer of the surgical technique for modern ACL and PCL ligament reconstruction. Dr. Joyce is affiliated with St. Francis Care Hospital, the only hospital in Connecticut listed as a top 100 hospital. He is affiliated with University Connecticut Health Care Center and the Farmington Surgery Center. He is the Orthopaedic Team Physician & Consultant for the University of Connecticut and all UCONN athletics teams. He serves as Assistant Clinical Professor at the University Connecticut Medical School and Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Mark Bowen
Dr. Mark Bowen is a Board Certified Orthopaedic surgeon, concentrating on sports-related and traumatic injuries to the knee and shoulder. His areas of special interest are arthroscopy, ACL Reconstruction, treatment of miniscal tears, and rotator cuff injuries. Named by Woodward/White as one of the Best Doctors in America, he is on staff at NorthShore University HealthSystem, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and River North Same Day Surgical Center. As part of his responsibilities with the Northwestern Orthopaedic Institute, Dr. Bowen serves a Team Physician for the Chicago Bears, and has acted as Team Physician to the Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Cubs, New York Giants, and the Big Ten Conference.
Dr. Rebecca Carl
Dr. Rebecca Carl is Board Certified in Sports Medicine and Pediatrics. She served her fellowship in primary care sports medicine at Rush University Medical Center in 2007-08 as well as a Fellowship in non-operative orthopaedics at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics 2006-07. Her special interests include Sport medicine patients, concussions, musculoskeletal conditions ranging from scoliosis to hip dysplasia, sports injury prevention, knee and shoulder injuries, and congenital clubfoot treatment using the Ponseti method nois College of Medicine.
Dr. Sheila Dugan
Sheila A. Dugan, MD, is an associate professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Rush Medical College, Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois. Dugan is multi board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, electrodiagnostic medicine and pain medicine. She is highly skilled in neurological and sports-related rehabilitation. Prior to medical school, she received her physical therapy degree from Northwestern University in 1986. She's currently pursuing development of a program focused on women's musculoskeletal care, including both their medical and rehabilitation needs.
Alan Evans, PT, MOMT, FAAOMPT, MCSP
Alan graduated from Queen Margaret University in Scotland with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy and initially practiced in Canada before relocating to the United States in order to complete his Fellowship in Sports Medicine with Dr James Andrews at the American Sports Medicine Institute. Following the successful completion of this program, Alan went on to complete a 4 year Manual Therapy Fellowship program. Alan has worked in the outpatient orthopedic setting for over 20 years, and has lectured extensively throughout North America. He is currently based in Richmond, Virginia.
Ron Hruska, MPA, PT
Ron has a strong interest in myokinematic and biomechanical influences on postural and peripheral adaptation patterns. His 32 years of clinical experience assists him with direct patient interventions based on specific examination and evaluation data that best reflects neuromechanical stability, trunk symmetry and respiratory balance. He lectures extensively and consults regularly with physicians, physical therapists, optometrists, dentists, and other health care providers across the United States and internationally on patterned postural position and pathology and his approach of restoring symmetrical balance using PRI principles. His reputation has led to consultations with collegiate and professional athletes from a variety of arenas, states and countries. He is a graduate of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Division of Physical Therapy. He currently is a member of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain, American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association and the American Physical Therapy Association. Ron serves as a Biomechanical Consultant to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln through the Division of Athletic Medicine. He has patented Prism and Priori PRI Aquatic systems. He is co-founder of PRI Vision, LLC. He is Director of the Postural Restoration Institute ® .
