About this Course:

This course is an introduction to the basics of using Maya. Students will learn the very basics of creating 3D models using Maya.

Course Description:

Students in this course learn about the basic concepts and techniques used for modeling in Maya. Learn the terminology and their importance in the industry. Develop a workflow that will help them create a 3d model from start to finish. Maya is a 3d modeling software that is used by leading Video Game Companies and Animators.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Familiarize students the concept of 3d modeling with Maya
  • Using a 3d software that is used by top Video Game and Animation companies
  • Understand terminology that is used in the entertainment and engineering industries

Class Agenda:

  • Why 3d modeling and Maya is important
  • Importance of topology
  • Vertices, Edges, Faces
  • Creating a model with primitives
  • Creating a model using Curves
  • Turning Curves into Meshes
  • Combine primitive meshes and Curves
  • Create a character using these two techniques

Recommended Age: 10 +

  • Film: Kung Fu Panda, Spider-Man, The Incredibles, Avatar, Guardian of the Galaxy
  • TV: Fanboy and ChumChum, Futurama, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones
  • Games: Star Fox Zero, Halo 4, Uncharted, Bioshock, Resident Evil

*A requirement for a 4 year Media Arts College
