About this event

Santon is an accomplished musician,

who is fully blind from birth and autistic. He was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and grew up in Malden, Massachusetts. He began taking piano lessons when he was 3.5 years old.

Santon is an alumnus of Perkins School for the Blind and he went on to graduate from Berklee College of Music, summa cum laude. He performs as a solo pianist, accompanies singers, and plays piano in the Boston Tango Orchestra.

Santon also plays violin, bandoneon and several other instruments, as well as composes music.

We prefer focusing on Santon's abilities rather than his disabilities, but one medical condition, if explained, may allow you better understand Santon's way of speaking.

Even though at 1.5 years old he articulated a lot of words and phrases in at least 2 languages, until the age of 7 years he was not able to verbally express himself at all. He only memorized and repeated the exact text he's heard from others. This condition is called echolalia. After 20 years of speech therapy, he learned to use the memorized scripts more appropriately, but echolalia is still affecting Santon's ability to speak, especially when discussing new topics.

Music for Santon is the language he's really fluent in. It helps him to share his positive vibes with others as well as get through the tough times with minimal loss. Music is Santon's source of energy and his life drive. Music is a medicine for equilibrium, a vehicle for spreading love, and a weapon for peace.

In this recital, Santon will share with you the music he composed during the year 2020 and later. His original tune "Samba In Nahant" made him an honoree of the Danny Awards 2021 presented by the Daniel's Music Foundation in NYC.

Santon will also play a couple of his favorite classical pieces.

In the second part of the concert, he'll be joined by his incredible music partners:

Natalja Sticco, mezzo-soprano
