Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Fight Fitness is hosting a Charity Bootcamp & Potluck of Meaning at the end of August in support of 360°kids. Bring the dish that means the most to you and raise money for a great cause.

The Potluck of Meaning is a unique concept inspired by Precision Nutrition's annual gathering (PN Potluck of Meaning 2017). The concept is simple: bring a dish that really means something to you, try the dishes that matter most to everyone else, and have a great time together ... all while raising money to support at-risk youth in York Region.

This is the first year we are hosting a Potluck of Meaning at Fight Fitness. The event idea & details (incl FAQ) have been adapted from PN's 2017 Potluck of Meaning event, with permission.

Tickets are available now, here on Eventbrite. Please buy your tickets by Friday, August 25, 2017. Every dollar raised goes to 360°kids.

Quick Summary

  • The Potluck of Meaning: Everyone brings a dish that means something to them.
  • The Venue: Fight Fitness Markham
  • The Cause: All money raised goes to 360°kids, to help youth overcome crisis and transition to a state of safety and stability.

What kind of dish should I bring?

Bring something that has personal meaning to you. Something that has a story behind it. For example, at Precision Nutrition's last Potluck of Meaning, some people brought the dish they loved most as a kid; others brought something that reminded them of a loved one. Some dishes were really involved and elaborate, others were simple. One year, a guest brought chocolate truffles she makes each year for friends and family, and someone else brought their favorite artisanal chocolate they bought at a gourmet store. It's really up to you! The only "must" is to bring something with meaning.

How much food should I bring?

We suggest bringing enough to give 10-12 people a little taste.

Will there be a place for me to heat up my food?

Not really. The location doesn't have a commercial kitchen, so if you can, bring a dish that doesn't require reheating.

What if I can't bring a dish?

No dish? No problem! We'll just ask you to throw in a few extra bucks to make it fair (you can just purchase the "I can't bring a meal" ticket). Plus, you'll be doing a little extra for a great cause, 360°kids.

What if I want to bring a dish, but I'm travelling from out of town and can't cook?

Let us know at! Maybe we can help by finding you a kitchen or picking up some groceries for you so we can make it work. We'll try our best to make it possible for you to bring a dish.

Will I have to (get to) work out?

We have 4 classes that morning:

  • 7:15 a.m. Bootcamp
  • 8 a.m. Kickboxing
  • 9:15 a.m. Bootcamp
  • 10 a.m. Kickboxing

To join one of these classes, send me an e-mail at and I'll hook you up! If you want to try more than one class, you can get a 4-class pass here (use "josh" or "Josh" for a discount).

When do we eat?

Between 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., we will have mini workout sessions and challenges. Food will be served around 12:30 p.m.

Can I invite others?

Yes, bring a friend...or two!

Can I be a sponsor?

Absolutely! We are looking for a few more sponsors to help make this event a success. If this is something you're interested in, send me an e-mail at and let me know how you would like to be a part of our event.

How do I get there?

Fight Fitness Markham is on Torbay Road, near Woodbine Avenue & Steeles Avenue. If you're using public transit, you can take the 53 Steeles bus (TTC) from Finch Station, or 24 Don Mills Station bus (YRT/Viva) from Highway 7 & Woodbine. Consult Google Maps for detailed travel itineraries.

There is on-site parking at Fight Fitness Markham, and additional parking behind the building.

What is 360°kids?

360°kids serves over 3,000 youth each year from every municipality in York Region.

The name 360°kids refers to the comprehensive approach that the organization takes to assisting at-risk youth and surrounding them with care, recognizing these kids need a wide range of support to help them rebuild their lives. This holistic approach is embodied by their slogan: Surrounding kids in crisis with care.

The Mission of 360°kids is to help youth overcome crisis and transition to a state of safety and stability. This aligns with our mission at Fight Fitness to transform lives through fitness and to develop leaders in the communities we serve, including youth and our leaders of tomorrow.

We are proud to support this organization and hope you'll join us in supporting a great cause this year.

Why a potluck?

When I heard about 360°kids through the United Way's GenNext Cabinet, I found a cause close to my heart - inspiring & empowering kids, youth and young adults towards a brighter future.

I attended Precision Nutrition's Potluck of Meaning (POM) events (2016, 2017) and had a blast! I enjoyed reconnecting with old friends and meeting new friends, over good food and good stories. I thought a POM-style fundraiser would be perfect to support a cause dear to my heart, in a way meaningful to me (and to hopefully a few others who enjoy good food).

After getting the blessing of PN's Krista-Scott Dixon (KSD), I decided to give it a go.

In their own words, here is why Precision Nutrition chose to do a potluck:

Because we wanted to do a fundraiser PN-style; low-key, with heart and purpose. Started by KSD, Phil, Carm and Jay in 2011, the Potluck of Meaning was created to get people actively thinking and talking about food. But even more, it was designed to get people sharing meaningful things about themselves: their backgrounds, their families, their stories. Things that almost never come up in everyday conversation. For those of you who have attended one, you'll know firsthand how cool that can be.
