34th International Churchill Conference
The International Churchill Society is pleased to announce the 34th International Churchill Conference, “Churchill as International Statesman”. The Conference will be held at the historic Essex House hotel in New York City on October 10-12, 2017. This will be the first-ever International Churchill Conference held in New York, the city that Churchill first visited in 1895 and where he suffered his 1931 "misadventure"--being run over by a car on 5th Avenue! The history of the world hung in the balance just blocks from where we shall meet this autumn.
Those who register by May 31, 2017, will receive a 10% discount on all tickets.
First-time conference speakers will include Lord Owen, former British foreign secretary and author of Cabinet's Finest Hour: The Hidden Agenda of May 1940; Lord Bew, author of Churchill and Ireland; and Lewis Lehrman, co-founder of the Gilder-Lehrman Institute for American history and author of Churchill, Roosevelt, and Company. Return favorites will include Andrew Roberts, previewing his forthcoming biography of Churchill, and David Lough, on "Churchill and the Art of the Deal".
One of the conference's many highlights will be an interview by Celia Sandys, Churchill's granddaughter, of Lady Williams (formerly Jane Portal), personal secretary to Churchill during his second premiership.
Tuesday, October 10: Conference opens with a welcoming reception.
Wednesday, October 11: Full day of panel sessions including luncheon with guest speaker and gala black-tie dinner at the Essex House.
Thursday, October 12: The conference will continue with more panels and include lunch.
Registration is free for high school and college students, however, student tickets are not available online. Please contact us via email here for more information. Include your school and expected date of graduation.
