34th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration

Description
The 34th annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., birthday celebration will be held on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 9 AM in the Oxnard PAL Gymnasium. Admission includes refreshments and entry to the celebration and vendor exhibits. This year’s theme is, “Dream, Believe, Act! We can do more together than apart.”
Keynote Speaker
The keynote speaker will be Troy Brown, City Manager of Moorpark. Mr. Brown has over 25 years of public sector experience that began in the City of Santa Clarita, CA. He has served as Assistant to the City Manager for the cities of Riverside and Elk Grove, Assistant City Manager for the City of Livermore, and City Manager for the City of Tracy. Throughout his municipal career he has appointed executive leadership, reorganized city departments, overseen construction of numerous capital improvement projects, enhanced transparency, and elevated the professionalism of local government.
Brown has a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from California State University, Northridge and a Master’s of Public Administration from California State University, San Bernardino. He is married to his wife Toni and has two children, Kenneth and Ally. In his downtime he enjoys boating, traveling, and is an avid golfer.
Schedule
The day will begin with a Freedom March from Plaza Park at Fifth and “C” Streets. Community members, elected officials, and spiritual leaders will assemble at the park for prayer at 8 a.m.; the march will begin at 8:15 a.m. and then proceed to the Oxnard PAL Gymnasium. Transportation is available to Plaza Park from the Oxnard PAL parking lot for the march only, beginning at 7:30 AM.
The celebration program will begin at 9 AM and will feature youth speakers, scripture readings, and musical selections by the MLK Celebration Choir directed by Dr. Angela Timmons.
Tickets
Tickets are also available for purchase directly from MLK Committee members and a limited number may be available on the day of the event at Plaza Park and at the entrance to the event (cash or check).
