About this event

This summer, Keep Growing Detroit will host an outdoor dinner series at KGD Farm bringing together the growers we serve to nurture our relationships through good food and conversation. In 3-4 vegetable forward courses, each dinner will tell a story of how Detroit-based chefs, with influences from around the world, interact with our food landscape - the diversity of crops in our region, the restaurants and places where we gather, and the growers who tend to the land - and how Detroit in turn shapes their food practices. Each course will highlight seasonal produce, grown locally by Detroit-based gardeners and farmers.

Please note, these events are ONLY for members of the Garden Resource Program.

We know each dinner will be delicious and it's hard to choose! Because space is limited, please limit ONE DINNER per GRP member. Menus TBA.

Monday, June 13th - Buddah of Buddah Foods

Chef Buddah, aka “The Vegan Gumbo Guy”, is a Detroit-born vegan and vegetarian chef. With over 25 years in the hospitality industry, he has founded Cater 2U Detroit T.V., a YouTube cooking channel, and Buddah Foods, a vegetarian personal chef and catering company. Check his instagram to see where he is popping up next @thevegangumboguy

Monday, July 11 - Warda of Warda Patisserie

Warda Bouguettaya, 2020 Freep Chef of the Year, is the founder of Warda Patisserie, a "local patisserie without borders". Born in Algeria, her seasonal pastries are a celebration of all the places she’s lived and traveled, including North Africa, France, and Asia. Bouguettaya crafts tantalizing tarts, airy focaccia, Algerian treats, and gluten-free tea cakes, sourcing seasonal ingredients from local farmers, when possible. Warda was also recognized in 2021 by James Beard Foundation as Outstanding Pastry Chef Award Nominee.

Monday, August 8 - Kiki Louya

Kiki Louya is a Detroit-born chef, entrepreneur, food activist, community partner, and storyteller, working to build a healthier, more equitable food system for all. Kiki has gained recognition as a change maker in the American food industry. She founded Folk & The Farmer’s Hand, two award winning food concepts with the purpose of supporting the fair treatment of food and farm workers alike. She is also a founder of Nest Egg Detroit, the country’s first all women-owned hospitality group.

Monday, September 12 - Nadia and Mamba of Baobab Fare

Nadia Nijimbere and Hamissi Mamba are the owners of Baobab Fare, a restaurant in celebration of East African food and culture, located in New Center. Nadia and Mamba came to the Detroit from Burundi in 2014, yearning to start a new life. More than just a restaurant and market, Baobab serves as a safe space for other immigrants and Detroiters alike, knowing that it is a meeting place where all are welcomed and embraced.
