32nd Tchoupitoulas Bar-a-thon

told you it was cool.
Been trying to tell you for a while. There's an easy way and a hard way. This year, the easy gets easier and the hard gets much harder. Here's what you need to know. Read carefully and take your time.
earlier of 150 entrants or December 31, 2013: Repeat Performers are those who did the 2013 race and the first 150 are entitled to lagniappe goodies and a no-fee and discounted ($30) entry. REPEAT PERFORMER REGISTRATION WAS FULFILLED AS OF THE AFTERNOON OF FRIDAY MAY 24, 2013.
May 24, 2013 - December 31, 2013: "FEE HATER" registration for 2014 Bar-a-thon. Register now through the end of the year and the gator eats the fees.
January 1, 2014 - May 2, 2014. Regular race registration. There will be no race day registration. Race capped and no exceptions and no extra gear for sale on race day. After "Repeat Performers" (150), only 800 registrations exist for the event. NOTE: registration cutoff is on a Friday evening.
May 15, 2014: Packet pickup from 5-9pm at Le Bon Temps Roule; food trucks will be there the entire time so come hungry; Abita Beer specials; Bar-a-thoners pay no cover for Soul Rebels at 11PM.
May 16, 2014: Packet pickup begins at 11AM at Le Bon Temps Roule; food trucks will be there for lunch (11AM-2PM) and dinner (7PM-11PM).
Race begins at 6:05PM sharp! Make sure you have a full beer (we'll give you one) for the start.
Oysters shucked after the race. Beer specials and food trucks.
Awards begin in the back bar at 8:30PM.
Watermelon sacrifice whenever the hell Tutuman wants to do it (hint: right after the awards are done).
Band begins after watermelon sacrifice.
Go home when you're no longer any fun.
Already told you. 6 miles, 6 bars, 6 beers.
1. LE BON TEMPS ROULE (4801 Magazine)
2a. REGINELLI'S (741 State)
3. TJ QUILL'S (7600 Maple) - now called "the Annex"
4. PATOIS RESTAURANT (6078 Laurel)
5. DOS JEFES UPTOWN CIGAR BAR (5535 Tchoupitoulas)
6. F&M PATIO BAR (4841 Tchoupitoulas)
-note the split in the second bar, which is important for two reasons:
First, you can't get a beer at both bars. Your color-coded number won't allow for it. Don't bother trying.
Second, be mindful of when you get your number - get it early and make sure if you want to run with a bunch of people that you get the same colored number; this is your responsibility, not ours.
Be mindful of others - we had some late-comers this year and the beer was all gone by 6:20. We had 1200 of them and only 1050-1100 racers, so please let's avoid taking two (or more) beers even if you think it's easy to get away with. 6 beers in an hour or so is a decent clip and there's always more if you absolutely need it. Give the folks your beer tag and they will give you a beer. Don't open it till the gun goes off.
Visit the bars in this order. Each of them. Even Quill's, where you will be uniquely marked so our koozie enforcers at the finish line can give you your official FINISHER'S KOOZIE. We will be at the finish line with koozies for 2 hours 15 minutes, or about 8:20PM. One pull tag, one koozie.
Afterward, some weird old guys will shout into a megaphone and make you do things that you'll regret for a while, but if you're one of the "winners", you can expect a custom-crafted metal creation from local artist LUIS COLMENARES. These awards have gone over so well that the idea has been jocked by other clubs and races.
DIRTY SOUTH/PURPLE MONKEY DESIGNS will assist in a new look for the shirts this year. Guaranteed - creative and a must-have.
Last year we gave you a Vance Kelly play on the "6 6 6" motif. Everyone will get a poster again this year.
This year, we'll get some different lagniappe for the 150 Repeat Performers.
