Event description
2nd Women In Environmental Sciences Workshop

About this Event

Globally, environmental challenges in all communities and all societies, will affect all people’s lives. But, their impact will be felt most especially on women and children. Women therefore will have crucial roles to play in facing the necessary transformations to the way we live, if human beings are to survive climate change. Males may appear to be in dominant political and industrial positions across the world, but it is women who, in the main, will raise future generations. We need to make sure our voices are heard now.

Through our workshop, we aim to develop female confidence and effective engagement with the environmental challenges the world faces, and with the scientific strategies that might overcome these challenges. Science, politics and the media all need female perspectives on research priorities, narratives, cultural items, news stories, educational resources, revenues and financial investment, influence on science policy strategies, if we are to ensure that these vital changes begin to be implemented now.

The workshop will:

  • establish women’s voices in environmental science, as part of an interdisciplinary research programme, within the framework of sustainable development goals;
  • explore how partnerships between research & development organisations (local & international) can be focused on women’s environmental concerns and initiated to deliver innovation & impact;
  • encourage & inspire a new generation of women to become environmental science advocates, activists & practitioners.

Target audience: Academics, early career researchers, undergraduates, postgraduate students, politicians, A-Level students and women with a general interest in the environment, will all be welcome.
