Event description
Join us Saturday, December 7th, as we celebrate the 56th anniversary of Wendell Scott’s 1st NASCAR win.

About this Event

We will honor not only his life and legacy, but applaud the Wendell Scott Foundation’s efforts to instill the same values Scott showcased in the hearts and minds of area children.

Held at the Great Hall at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research, the upscale fundraiser will feature entertainment by Grammy Award winner Robert Glasper and American R&B singer-songwriter Anthony David

Join us for a black tie gala featuring great entertainment, dinner, scholarship presentations and an uplifting keynote address. This fundraising event will raise funds to help us build a permanent home for our foundation and the legacy of Wendell Scott.

Sponsorships are available for the event. To learn more, please contact Yolanda@wendellscott.org.

Wendell Scott will forever be remembered not only as a legend in racing, but as a determined man who worked to defy the principles of the Jim Crow south. Breaking barriers of color in racing, he is remembered as the only African-American driver to win the Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR's highest level, as well as the first African-American to obtain a NASCAR racing license. Scott’s legacy is immortalized as he is now in the NASCAR Hall of Fame, the highest honor bestowed in the organization.

On December 1, 1963, Scott officially stepped into the winner’s circle, winning his first Grand National Race. His drive, determination, and story has lived on throughout the decades and is evident in his namesake organization. Today, he is still remembered as the only African-American race car driver/team owner to win a NASCAR race.

To serve youth, and the community, the Wendell Scott Foundation supports students' education and development through cultural enrichment activities and STEM based programs, and advocates for the importance of education and college readiness in under served communities. The Wendell Scott Foundation administers several key programs, including scholarships, internships, mentoring, summer enrichment, and curriculum and job readiness programs.
