Lace up your sneakers, lean forward and get ready for the 2nd Annual Tear Drop Half Marathon™! If you’re looking for a fast and scenic half marathon then join us on Saturday, April 30, 2016.
The race will start on top of Fort Mountain at an elevation near 3000 feet and finish 13.1 miles away in Chatsworth, Georgia, for an over 2000-foot drop. The course is USAT&F certified for those participants that are looking to set a personal record or for a qualifying time at a race elsewhere (almost eveyone PR'd or ran faster than they expected). Chatsworth is 80 miles from Atlanta, 40 miles from Chattanooga and 10 miles from Dalton.
The race course is on all paved roads and features 9 miles of 5-10% grade downhill (which will improve your time :40- 1:20 per mile!) and then a flat to rolling finish. The scenic route through the Cohutta Wilderness Area welcomes racers of all abilities.
In addition to the half marathon, there will be plenty of extras for the runners! Beautiful medals for all finishers and every participant will receive a T-Shirt in addition to post-race food; N. Georgia pulled pork BBQ and veggie hotdogs, and drinks; beer for 21 and over participants from Cold Creek Growlers! There will also be some great raffle prizes for all participants!
The event supports the Murray Arts Council. A majority of race day volunteers will be there in support of this organization!
Murray Arts Council was established in the summer of 2012. We are located in Downtown Chatsworth and provide art exhibits, theatrical performances, concerts and classes to expand art awareness in Murray County. Recently, Murray County was chosen along with seven other communities in NW Georgia and SE Tennessee to participate in a Thriving Communities grant program sponsored by the Lyndhurst Foundation to fund a program that combines art and culture to enhance the vitality of our community.
After Party! For those that are staying the weekend or live nearby join us for the Cold Creek Casual After Race Party and general community get together. It will be in the Mountain Spirits Liquor Store shopping center in Eton Ga, 4-10pm April 30th. Enjoy local band named LongShot. There will be food vendors as well as vendors that are not food related, corn hole and Electric Slide contest. There will of course be 16 craft beer and ciders on tap for sale by the drink ranging from $3- $7. No charge for entry!
